RADIO REPORT: What’s Popping At Top 40 Radio This Week (April 12-13, 2021)

It’s time once again to analyze the airwaves and find out if your favorite new releases will be lighting up your local station’s playlist this week. Which tunes will climb to the top and which ones will hit a stop? Here are four tracks impacting this week at the Top 40 format:

AJ MITCHELL, “Stop” (Epic)
Album: Skyview (2021)
Past T40 History: Mitchell narrowly missed earning his fourth top 40 song in July with “Burn”, which peaked at #42 on the chart.

DEMI LOVATO featuring ARIANA GRANDE, “Met Him Last Night” (Island/Republic)
Album: Dancing With The Devil… The Art Of Starting Over (2021)
Past T40 History: This is replacing “Dancing With The Devil” as the new single from Lovato’s album. “Devil” got to #40 last week.

DOJA CAT featuring SZA, “Kiss Me More” (Kemosabe/RCA)
Album: Planet Her (2021)
Past T40 History: After a big first day of airplay, this release easily crashed into the top 40. It’s their sixth and seventh top 40 hits.

NESSA BARRETT featuring JXDN, “La Di Die” (Warner)
Album: TBA (2021)
Past T40 History: This track is nearing the top 20 at Alternative radio. Jxdn’s “Angels & Demons” hit #49 at Top 40 radio last fall.

Next week: songs from Beach Bunny and Jackson Wang hope to hop along and up the adds report.

How will these songs perform on the adds report? Let me know!

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (April 11, 2021)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. This week’s pair of chart entries are all about me… but when it comes to you, here’s what’s popping at the format this week:

‘FORE SCORES AGAIN: Billie Eilish remains at #1 on the Top 40 radio chart for a second week with “Therefore I Am”. Earlier this year, the single also spent two weeks at the top of the Alternative chart, where it was recently removed to recurrent status. Meanwhile, it’s active in the top ten at the Hot AC format, moving up 8-6 this week.

The new tune from Doja Cat and SZA purrs up the pop radio chart with a debut at #33. “Kiss Me More” earns the two artists their sixth and seventh top 40 singles, respectively. Meanwhile, Lil Nas X bolts from 50-34 with his fourth top 40 hit, “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)”.

There are no new entries in this week’s top 50. Recent impacting titles by Annika Wells and Sofia Carson are among the tracks looking to sneak into the region next weekend, but they’ll have to compete with a number of other releases.
