RECORD REWIND 2020: PGTC Picks, Week Twenty

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
BLAKE ROSE – “Rest Of Us” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Seventh appearance

Australian singer/songwriter Rose continues to put out some quality releases, including his new track from earlier in the week. Co-written with Tim Pagnotta, best known for his work with acts like Neon Trees and Walk The Moon, this ballad is his best in a while.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
JAKE SCOTT – “Learning To Love You” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Fifth appearance

Learning has been an essential part of this time of self-isolation, so it’s no surprise that Scott’s track about learning to love becomes an essential part of this week’s independent spotlight. Co-written with longtime collaborator Thomas Macken, it’s a very pretty cut.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
BEN RECTOR – “It Would Be You”

DES ROCS – “Wayne”
JORDAN SUASTE – “Body”

RECORD REWIND 2019: PGTC Picks, Week Forty Four

_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
MOKITA – “Colorblind” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Second appearance

Nashville musician John-Luke Carter was last featured on the Rewind back in December 2016, signing to the electronic music label Armada shortly after that song came out. However, even though his current single is credited as a self-release, it’s still a great track.

_____

KIESZA – “You’re The Best”

_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
PETER THOMAS – “If You’re Happy Now” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Fourth appearance

Underrated pop songwriter and performer Thomas has a history of making fantastic music and his artist project has produced even more cool songs since the summer. This one, a mellow 80’s soft pop-influenced tune, certainly makes us happy that it was released.

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, April 15-21, 2018

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

CONFETTI – “When I Grow Up” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: One previous mention, “People Suck” (February 2018)
Notes: Though not nearly as polarizing as their last release, the new song from this act is just as fun, touching on a universal theme.

_____

RYAN PULFORD – “Better Off Alone” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First time featured
Notes: Originally a SoundCloud discovery from a couple of years back, Pulford’s first release since 2016 is a super house music jam.

_____

ZAYDE WØLF – “Rule The World” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Three previous mentions, “Higher Than High” (October 2017) being the most recent entry
Notes: With another hit to howl about, that Wolf man returns with this anthemic and energetic release. (We’ll rate his record high.)

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
BAHARI – “Savage”
CRUISR – “Mind Eraser”
JOHNNY STIMSON – “End Of Time”
JON LEMMON – “Something True”

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, February 25 – March 3, 2018

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

QUINN LEWIS – “In Between” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: two previous appearances, “Slipping” (July 2017) and “Hollow” (with Super Duper, September 2017)
Notes: Lewis’s music has slayed me effortlessly in the past, including a prior EP that’s no longer available, and this excellent song is no different. Is the Nashville-based performer a future pop superstar? I sure think so! “Between” is perfect for the Top 40 airwaves.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
KATELYN TARVER – “Never Fade”
VOKES – “Expectation”
YOUNG RISING SONS – “Whiskey”

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 11/6 – 11/12

Record Rewind - November 13, 2016

Our new Record Rewind is about highlighting the top new songs that you may have missed, or should discover, from many of my favorite independent acts out there. If you like what you see, let me know what you think!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

JEREMY THURBER – “Find You In The Dark” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Thurber, a Los Angeles-based singer and songwriter, is a new name for me. However, he seems eager to get some music out there. After the release of his Deliverance EP in August, this is his new song, which should appeal to fans of Jon Bellion and Troye Sivan.

_____

KATELYN TARVER – “Hate To Tell You” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Tarver’s previous two singles, a cover of Jeremih’s “Planez” and original song “What Do We Know Now”, were featured in Rewind posts during the late summer. Though “Weekend Millionaires” remains her most successful single, her new one has a great sound.

_____

MARTIN LUKE BROWN – “Shadow & Light” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Once in the major label system, and now doing it on his own, London singer Brown delivers a poignant pop anthem that’s certainly a fitting one, given the political events of last week. Heavy on an acoustic arrangement and gospel influence, it’s a pleasant release.

_____

PASSPORT TO STOCKHOLM – “Shooting Stars” (iTunes) (Spotify)
This London trio has been on my radar for over a year now, and their last single was a great folk/pop track called “Better Days”. In their latest release, they go for more anthemic indie rock, which isn’t a bad thing. That chorus could be giant when performed live!

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
PAPER PILOTS – “Automatic” (SoundCloud)
ROYAL TEETH – “Only You” (SoundCloud)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 9/18 – 9/24

Record Rewind - September 25, 2016

Our new Record Rewind is about highlighting the top new songs that you may have missed, or should discover, from many of my favorite independent acts out there. If you like what you see, let me know what you think!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

AARON KRAUSE – “Thinkin Bout You” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Krause continues to see huge streaming stats for his 2013 cover of “Every Breath You Take”, but his new pop gem might just take your breath away. He’s been honing his craft as a writer/producer, and this cut is a great achievement for the Nashville musician.

_____

DENNY WHITE – “Psycho” (available October 7)
He tasted sweet success with “Sweetness”, and he was too cool for school with Golden Coast’s “Recess”. Now, White’s going crazy on the piano and the percussion with his haunting pop track, which comes just a month before Halloween. Spooky. It’s very good.

_____

KNGDAVD – “Poppies” (iTunes) (Spotify)
This New York City duo is bringing the heat with their fantastic future pop sound. “Say My Name” was featured on the Rewind in mid-July, and “Poppies” blooms in all its rhythmic, yet rock-driven glory. Led by guitar and vocal, their music is out of this world.

_____

MACKENZIE THOMS – “Shout” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Thoms has been a regular on my blog and playlists for over a year now with songs like “Conviction” and “Do Me All Again”, and if you’re thinking this is an Isley Brothers or Tears For Fears cover, think again. This slick sound is ready to be blasted on the radio.

_____

MULLALLY – “Wonderful” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Singer Connor Mullally has already seen massive love for his previous singles, “Overdose” and “Troubled Love”, and the Norfolk performer isn’t done adding to his collection of super songs yet. Combining soul and a bit of tropical pop, it certainly works here.

_____

RAINSFORD – “Too Close” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Los Angeles’s Rainey Qualley last appeared on the Rewind in July, when “S.I.D. (Sunshine In December)” first debuted. The sun’s certainly shining in September too, as her new jam hits the blogs. Regardless of genre, Qualley’s voice draws you in. It’s excellent.

_____

TAY SALEM – “Threads” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Salem first made the Rewind in mid-July; that’s when he gave us a dose of “Iron”. Now, the London-based singer returns with the next taste of his Night Mill EP, due October 7. The powerful track blends indie rock and R&B, creating a lush musical experience.

_____

For more great new music, and there was a lot of it this week, these tunes are worth a listen…
ALLIE & IVY – “Best Friends” (SoundCloud)
COSMOS & CREATURE – “Young” (SoundCloud)
KATELYN TARVER – “What Do We Know Now” (SoundCloud)
KIAH VICTORIA – “Titivating” (SoundCloud)
OYSTER KIDS – “40 Nights” (SoundCloud)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 8/14 – 8/20

Record Rewind - August 21, 2016

Our new Record Rewind is about highlighting the top new songs that you may have missed, or should discover, from many of my favorite independent acts out there. If you like what you see, let me know what you think!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

BRUNO MAJOR – “Wouldn’t Mean A Thing” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Major’s delightfully retro-tinged ballad got some, well, major looks on iTunes and Spotify upon its wide release a few days ago. I think it’ll continue to grow nicely. Though it isn’t his first release to date, it’s certainly an exciting moment for the London singer.

_____

CASTLECOMER – “Judy” (iTunes) (Spotify)
I’ve reposted a number of songs from this Australia quintet in the past; my favorites include “Fire Alarm” and “The Noise”. Their latest single is another indie rock gem with a catchy chorus. It may even have sync potential down the line. So, get to rocking out!

_____

CHRIS JAMISON – “Truth” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Jamison was a finalist on The Voice in the fall of 2014, and his super soulful EP I Am Chris Jamison is a smooth reminder of that great artistry he showcased on the program. “Better Man” is on the radio in his hometown, but the production on “Truth” is hot.

_____

KATELYN TARVER – “Planez” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Last year, Tarver achieved a notable SoundCloud breakout with cuts like “Nobody Like You” and “Weekend Millionaires”. You’ll find that the latter hit had a proper digital release earlier this summer. Her new cover song soars high into the pop stratosphere.

_____

KEVIN GARRETT – “Precious” (iTunes) (Spotify)
It’s no secret that Garrett has jams for days, and the New York performer, who defines his sound as “odd soul”, has another tune to make you swoon. Exquisitely executed, this release has a great hook and solid build that pulls you in. I can’t wait to hear more.

_____

For more new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
HUDSON SCOTT – “Get Down” (SoundCloud)
TIM ATLAS – “The Other Side” (SoundCloud)
WAVE & ROME – “Strangers (Acoustic)” (SoundCloud)
