RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 1/7-13/18

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

DENNY WHITE – “Torn Up” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Three appearances last year, with notable features for “Traces” (January) and duo Golden Coast’s “Float On By” (October)
Notes: In a note to his Instagram followers, White talked about how “Torn” was the first release that he wrote, produced and mixed without the help of additional personnel. Spotify added the single to its New Music Friday lists in Canada and the United Kingdom.

_____

SAM FISCHER – “Smoke” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Fischer’s two singles from November of 2016, “Getting Older” and “Same Friends”, were both featured
Notes: Fischer’s current release was co-written by a friend, Jamie Hartman, who also co-wrote the #2 entry on my Top 100 of 2017: “Human”, performed by singer Rag’N’Bone Man. (Hartman also produced “Smoke”.) Check it out before it lights up everywhere!

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 10/22 – 10/28/17

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

KAPTAN – “Moving On” (Spotify)
It’s always a great edition of the Rewind when I get to include a new single by this artist, who I’ve been supporting on the blog since the summer of 2015. (Time really flies!) His awesome release on the South x Sea label is catchy and anthemic indie pop at its finest.

_____

MALIA – “Champagne Clouds” (Spotify)
What happens when one of the biggest Top 40 stations in the U.S. takes a chance on an unknown performer on a new label? Well, a rare thing has happened to Malia Civetz, from Jacob Kasher and Ross Golan’s Friends With Pens label. It’s a pretty solid pop debut.

_____

JOHN.K – “Wrong” (SoundCloud)
NICHOLAS ROBERTS – “Still Believe” (SoundCloud)
SVRCINA – “Astronomical” (SoundCloud)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 6/18 – 6/24/17

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

COURTSHIP. – “Perfect People” (iTunes) (Spotify)
The Los Angeles duo of Eli Hirsch and Micah Gordon continues to craft excellent cuts for the blog world, with “Love For Everyone” and “Sunroof” among my favorites from them. “Perfect” has a lovely nostalgic feel, sounding like a nod to late 70’s California rock.

_____

KAPTAN – “Better” (iTunes) (Spotify)
I’ve been a big supporter of Andrew de Torres’s current project on the blog for a couple of years now, though he hasn’t appeared in a Rewind post since “Numbers” in July 2016. Well, you can re-examine those numbers now, as his alternative pop jam gets started.

RKCB – “Vice” (SoundCloud)
Sam Tinnesz featuring Super Duper – “Babel” (SoundCloud)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 7/10 – 7/16

Record Rewind - July 17, 2016

Our new Record Rewind is about highlighting the top new songs that you may have missed, or should discover, from many of my favorite independent acts out there. If you like what you see, let me know what you think!

Across the world of SoundCloud and my Indie Summer Mix on Spotify, these records stuck out as my favorite independent tunes of the week…

_____

CARDBOARD KIDS – “I Don’t Need Love” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Several tracks by this Nashville quartet have been featured in the Rewind over these last few weeks, and if you’re in the mood for a new band suggestion, they have a good thing going with their new EP, Mint. “Don’t” is one of the highlights in the five-track set.

_____

GREER – “Love Me Less”
Boston’s Greer Wilson recently uploaded a pair of tracks, collaborating once again with Christian Medice, a co-writer on a couple of top ten hits on my personal chart from 2014. With a good lyric and a good bounce, he’s got a nice jam for the blog community.

_____

HARLETSON – “Say Our Goodbyes (Quarter Song)” (iTunes) (Spotify)
The trio of Weston Wilson, Jackson Singleton and Nathan Harrington is off to a great start with their debut single, which follows a number of cover videos since last fall. You’ll want to invest more than a few quarters in this future radio hit. Look out for them.

_____

KAPTAN – “Numbers” (iTunes) (Spotify)
The streaming numbers don’t lie; with over six million plays to date, Andrew de Torres’s project is a hit. Of course, you knew that already; he’s been featured on my PGTC playlists for nearly a year. His latest song is a solid addition to his diverse music catalog.

_____

KIAH VICTORIA – “I Ain’t Goin Nowhere” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Summer never sounded so good for this New York singer and songwriter. With two massive tracks to date, she is definitely going to be around for some time. Serving empowerment and intelligence, it sends an important message during a time of uncertainty.

_____

TAY SALEM – “Iron” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Salem is a new act on my radar, and the London musician doesn’t disappoint with this track. He could have a cinematic future if a good music supervisor finds his work. He paints with dark and lush tones that will grab you from the first listen. Very cool single.

_____

VHS COLLECTION – “Ghost” (iTunes) (Spotify)
In a week of Ghostbusters coverage in the media, I ain’t ‘fraid of no “Ghost”. In fact, I’m embracing this one. The New York group pops in a new tape and comes out with a danceable little ditty. If you’re headed to Chicago for Lollapalooza, they play on Sunday.

_____

For more new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
CHERRYADE – “The Crown” (SoundCloud)
DANIEL FEELS featuring CASSO – “Eyes Closed” (SoundCloud)
FINE PRINT – “Matter” (SoundCloud)
SKIES – “Hold On” (SoundCloud)
