NEW MUSIC FRIDAY: Releases For The Week of December 8, 2017

“You” better know this one.

Continuing with those stunning December releases, we frolic through finds of all kinds, from country to folk to pop to rap. With so much to explore, here’s the weekly look at the albums and singles you need to know about this Friday:

LUKE BRYAN – What Makes You Country (iTunes)
Well, it’s no surprise to see this country superstar at the top of his core format’s radio chart with “Light It Up” this week, so it’s a sure thing that Bryan’s latest album will have a strong showing in the marketplace in the coming days. Three of his releases, two studio albums and a compilation, have hit #1 on the Billboard 200 chart during the decade. We’ll see if this becomes his fourth.

BIG SEAN & METRO BOOMIN – Double Or Nothing (iTunes)
Following the release of the 21 Savage-assisted track “Pull Up N Wreck”, which is currently in the top 40 on both the Rhythmic and Urban charts, the duo’s first full-length album together is now in stores. This set also features collaborations with acts like 2 Chainz, Travis Scott and Young Thug. Look for it to be a streaming winner, though it’ll likely sell a little bit as well.

NEW MUSIC FRIDAY: Releases For The Week of March 25, 2016

He's gonna blow your Mind.

He’s gonna blow your Mind.

Don’t piss off the neighbors by blasting any old music on this New Music Friday. There are plenty of great selections in the mix to make both you, and those around you, content. Here are this week’s album and single releases:

  • ZAYN — Mind Of Mine (iTunes)
    • The first solo album from the former boy bander leads him in many directions musically, but in just one direction when it comes to where he’s headed on the charts. If you said the top, you’re right. Mind is led by the recent #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 called “Pillowtalk”, which is still surging at radio across several formats. How high will it go in its first sales frame? Stay tuned.
  • K. MICHELLE — More Issues Than Vogue (iTunes)
    • With a reality series airing on VH1, My Life, and a new album in stores today, this Memphis singer is covering the core media outlets quite easily. A single from the set, “Not A Little Bit”, recently went top 20 at the Urban format and looks to keep climbing. This should be her third top ten album in a row.
  • ANTHONY HAMILTON — What I’m Feelin’ (iTunes)
    • Hamilton’s single “Amen” is yet another top ten for him on Urban AC radio. Shockingly, he’s never debuted in the top ten on the Billboard 200 in his two decades of recording and releasing music. This could change very soon.
  • More albums out this week: Birdy‘s Beautiful Lies (iTunes), Elliphant‘s Living Life Golden (iTunes), Judas Priest‘s Battle Cry (Live) (iTunes), Sammy Adams‘s The Long Way (iTunes), The Joy Formidable‘s Hitch (iTunes), Young Thug‘s Slime Season 3 (iTunes)
  • More EPs out this week: Cape Cub‘s Closer (iTunes), Kiiara‘s low kii savage (iTunes), RØMANS‘s Silence (iTunes)

New digital-only singles that you can buy this week include:

  • “American Oxygen”, X Ambassadors (iTunes)
  • “Blood Red Lips”, Cheap Trick (iTunes)
  • “Cleopatra”, The Lumineers (iTunes)
  • “Close”, Nick Jonas featuring Tove Lo (iTunes)
  • “HandClap”, Fitz & The Tantrums (iTunes)

TURN IT UP TUESDAY: What’s New In Stores This Week (December 9)

"Something" for the top ten.

“Something” for Billboard’s top ten.

There’s nothing like music as a present for the holidays, and if you’re looking for a few last-minute selections to stuff some stockings, notable Country and R&B releases are arriving just in time, among others. Here’s what albums and singles are in stores for the week of December 9:

  • Celebrating her many years of success on the Country survey is former American Idol winner and current superstar Carrie Underwood and her Greatest Hits: Decade #1 compilation. The two disc album features her recent top ten “Something In The Water”, several unreleased demos, and, of course, all of the big hits. It has a slightly higher price tag given the amount of material, but it should still make a good impact, especially physically. (iTunes)
  • With perhaps the wild card of this week’s schedule is rapper/singer J. Cole and his third studio album, 2014 Forest Hills Drive. No singles were released prior to the album’s release date, though “Apparently” will go to Rhythm radio and “GOMD” to Urban radio today. Both of his prior sets have sold north of 200,000 copies in their first frame: can this accomplish the same feat? We’ll see soon. (iTunes)
  • Climbing up the top 30 at Urban radio with “Love ‘Em All”, singer and reality TV star K. Michelle returns with her latest album, Anybody Wanna Buy A Heart? It follows Rebellious Soul, which debuted in the runner-up position on the Billboard 200 last year. This set should put her back in the top ten on the big list. (iTunes)
  • Other releases out this week include: Angels & Airwaves‘s The Dream Walker (iTunes), Bastille‘s VS. (Other People’s Heartache, Pt. III) (iTunes), Cracker‘s Berkeley To Bakersfield (iTunes), E-40‘s Sharp On All 4 Corners (iTunes), Johnny Gill‘s Game Changer (iTunes) and the Smashing Pumpkins‘s Monuments To An Elegy (iTunes).

New digital-only singles that you can buy this week include:

  • “Honest”, a new single from Kodaline. (iTunes)
  • “Like That”, new from the duo Jack & Jack featuring Skate Maloley. (iTunes)
  • “Under The Influence”, a pre-release single from Elle King. (iTunes)

Next week marks the last big release date of 2014, this time on Monday, with albums by Charli XCX and Nicki Minaj in the mix. We’ll see you on Sunday night for the full musical menu.

TURN IT UP TUESDAY: What’s New In Stores This Week (August 13)

Reign is a good thing.

Party Time.

Whether you’re running to the rodeo or cuddling up at the coffee shop, it’s music connecting those two hot spots this week for your list of releases out today, August 13:

  • One of Country’s biggest singers today, Luke Bryan, offers up his Crash My Party album. The lead single and title track recently went to #1 on the Country chart, while followup single “That’s My Kind Of Night” is already making some big moves on the radio. It will likely become Bryan’s second #1 album this year after the compilation Spring Break… Here To Party spent a week there in March. (iTunes)
  • Their first album in 2009 was Losing Sleep. Now, they’re living in the Overnight. They are Parachute, and their third full-length release features the current Hot AC hit “Can’t Help”.  (iTunes)
  • Legendary Country singer Glen Campbell is back with See You There, featuring fresh updates to some of his biggest hits. It’s his first album for the independent Surfdog Records since 2011’s Ghost On The Canvas. (iTunes)
  • Florida singer-songwriter Matt Hires is out with his latest album, This World Won’t Last Forever, But Tonight We Can Pretend. It features the recent single “Restless Heart”. (iTunes)
  • Other albums out this week include the late Johnny Cash‘s Unheard (Live) (iTunes), K. Michelle‘s Rebellious Soul (iTunes), Pushin’ Against A Stone by Valerie June (iTunes) and the self-titled album by Wild Feathers (iTunes).

New digital-only singles that you can buy this week include:
