RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, April 15-21, 2018

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

CONFETTI – “When I Grow Up” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: One previous mention, “People Suck” (February 2018)
Notes: Though not nearly as polarizing as their last release, the new song from this act is just as fun, touching on a universal theme.

_____

RYAN PULFORD – “Better Off Alone” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First time featured
Notes: Originally a SoundCloud discovery from a couple of years back, Pulford’s first release since 2016 is a super house music jam.

_____

ZAYDE WØLF – “Rule The World” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Three previous mentions, “Higher Than High” (October 2017) being the most recent entry
Notes: With another hit to howl about, that Wolf man returns with this anthemic and energetic release. (We’ll rate his record high.)

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
BAHARI – “Savage”
CRUISR – “Mind Eraser”
JOHNNY STIMSON – “End Of Time”
JON LEMMON – “Something True”
KATELYN TARVER – “LY4L”
MALIA CIVETZ – “Little Victories”
SHAE JACOBS – “Space”
VHS COLLECTION – “One”

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, January 21-27, 2018

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

MAGDALENA BAY – “Waking Up” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: “Neon” (January), “Set Me Off” (April) and “Move Slow” (August) were all featured
Notes: It’s the first release of the year for duo Matthew Lewin and Mica Tenenbaum, who certainly know how to create a hooky and super fun 80’s-inspired gem. By the way, if you love their track “Neon” like I do, go and send someone a VinylPost and play it loud!

_____

VOKES – “Potential” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: “Backroad” (July 2016), “Wrong” (August 2016), “Screens” (October) were all featured; “Easy To Hate” (November) was noted
Notes: Dare I say that this has the potential to be my favorite single of theirs from their latest era? Well, besides the bad puns, it’s a great electropop meets alternative cut from the Los Angeles band, who I’m sure will return to the Rewind many times later in 2018.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
JOHNNY STIMSON – “Rocket” (SoundCloud)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 1/14-20/18

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

BETTY WHO – “Ignore Me” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: none; previously signed to RCA Records
Notes: Who may now be an independent artist, but she certainly doesn’t miss a beat. In fact, “Ignore Me” wasn’t ignored at all a few days ago, when it was added on several of Spotify’s New Music Friday lists, and the lead position on the PGTC Friday Faves playlist.

_____

JOHNNY STIMSON – “Wild World” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: “Time Machine” (March) had a prominent feature and “Honeymoon” (June) was noted as an additional pick
Notes: Stimson knows how to get my attention with a great stripped-down release. He says he wrote this single to realize “that even though the world is dark sometimes”, he should “stop and notice the beautiful things” within his world. It’s truly an authentic tune.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
LOSTBOYCROW – “I’m A Sailor Not A Salesman” (SoundCloud)
SAM FISCHER – “This City” (SoundCloud)
SUPER DUPER – “Far From Falling” (SoundCloud)
THE SHANTICS – “Mind Pop” (SoundCloud)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 6/11 – 6/17/17

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

MARTIN LUKE BROWN – “Into Yellow” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Brown’s been a favorite on both the blog and my chart for nearly three years, with songs like “Nostalgia” and “Take Out Of Me” still getting a fair amount of listening on my media player of choice. The ethereal pop track proves to be a very special musical moment.

_____

WHISSELL – “Been Here Before” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Here’s the Nashville performer who, much like her song title, has been here before on several occasions. In fact, the excellent “Legs Crossed” was featured on the Rewind last month. In the evolution of this lovely artist, this and “Legs” deliver some radio potential.

_____

WYLDER – “Save A Way” (iTunes) (Spotify)
This Washington, D.C.-based quartet looks a little different from when they were last featured on our feed, but their first new song in over a year is a good companion to their summer indie pop anthem “Sunstroke”, released in 2015. This guitar-driven track rules!

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 2/26 – 3/4/17

Record Rewind - March 5, 2017

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…
_____

JEFFREY JAMES – “Running Away” (iTunes) (Spotify)
James is no stranger to the Rewind, with “Both Ways” featured in October and “Hand Grenade” mentioned in January. Yeah, maybe we do like his tunes… can you tell? Updating his sound to a more dramatic, but anthemic pop style, the change is a good one for him.

_____

JOHNNY STIMSON – “Time Machine” (iTunes) (Spotify)
We’ve been bopping to Stimson’s top tracks for some time now, including songs like “Bright Side” and “Easy”. However, imagine our surprise when his latest EP, Yesterday, fell out of the sky on Friday. First track “Time” is a nice fusion of both retro and current pop.

_____

KYKO – “Dive In” (iTunes) (Spotify)
London performer Scott Verrill has been on the PGTC radar for a little under two years now. Needless to say, we’re preparing for an awesome EP next week called Wildfire. Stock up on your flame emojis! “Dive” blends indie rock and world music into one cool track.

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
AVI ON FIRE – “Win” (SoundCloud)
Jakil – “Every Time We Talk” (SoundCloud)
