RECORD REWIND 2019: PGTC Picks, Week Thirteen

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
CAPPA – “I Do” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Seventh appearance

It’s been about four months since this artist last appeared on the Rewind with her song “Sux”, and her latest track definitely doesn’t suck whatsoever. Written with Aaron Blackmar, the lighter pop tune has a pleasant melody, while still preserving a playful attitude.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
JESSE SAINT JOHN – “Crying” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Fifth appearance

Released as a part of a two-track single with an updated version of his former Rewind pick “What Do U Like”, you might need some tissues (sold seperately) when you check this cut out for the first time. The retro-tinged electronic sound finds just the right groove.

(no video available as of 3/31)

PICK OF THE WEEK: THREE
SVRCINA – “All I Wanna Do” (iTunes)
Previously on the Rewind: Ninth appearance

From “I Do” to “All I Wanna Do”, the latest Rewind entry for this Nashville performer may not be a hot Sheryl Crow cover, but it’s a pretty catchy single in its own right. Co-written with Ben Eggebrecht and Michael McEachern, it’s another super add to her catalog.

ADAM LAMBERT – “Feel Something” (Spotify)

After three albums in the major label system and several charting singles across a few different radio formats, the former American Idol contestant’s new independent release ranked in the top ten on iTunes yesterday. The deeply personal song is simple but lovely.

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

EMILY WARREN – “Just Click” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Fourth appearance
Notes: Warren’s first full-length release Quiet Your Mind has a nice mix of lighter pop sounds. This tune clicks as my favorite track.

_____

KIM PETRAS – “Close Your Eyes” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Third appearance
Notes: Face the spooky set called Turn Off The Light, Vol. 1, a new Halloween-themed EP from Petras. This song is one sweet treat.

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, May 13-19, 2018

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

BETTY WHO – “Taste” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Two previous appearances, most recently “Look Back” (March 2018)
Notes: Who’s newest winner is fifty shades of saucy and sensual, wrapped in a great pop production. This craving is really delicious.

_____

CARLIE HANSON – “Mood” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Three previous appearances, most recently “Us” (February 2018)
Notes: If you’re in the mood for another jam from Hanson, which I currently am, you’ll definitely dig the urban lean of her new one.

_____

CHELSEA CUTLER – “The Reason” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Two previous appearances, most recently “Out Of Focus” (February 2018)
Notes: Cutler’s third single of the year has a great hook and solid electronic elements, and I think you’d agree that that’s reasonable.

_____

JESSE SAINT JOHN – “Fake It” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: One previous appearance, “Move” (February 2018)
Notes: If you weren’t moving to his last single, you may not have a passion for pop bops! John’s newest release is an electronic gem.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
FELICITY – “Pilot With A Fear Of Heights”
VINDATA x R.LUM.R – “Emotion”

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, February 4-10, 2018

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

BAHARI – “F**ked Up” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: none; Bahari was previously signed to an imprint of Interscope Records
Notes: The trio of Ruby Carr, Natalia Panzarella and Sidney Sartini peaked at #10 on my chart in 2016 with a great psychedelic pop track called “Dancing On The Sun”. (It just missed the top 50 on the pop radio chart.) The darker update to their sound works well.

_____

FINNEAS – “Break My Heart Again” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: “I’m In Love With You” (September 2017) was noted as an extra
Notes: Known for his role during the sixth season of Glee, credited as Finneas O’Connell, this performer is also the older brother of Darkroom/Interscope artist Billie Eilish, whom he also works with. “Break” is a beautiful piano-pop ballad that really strikes deep.

_____

JESSE SAINT JOHN – “Move” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: none; debut artist single
Notes: John has written for and/or with plenty of top artists in the last year, including album cuts and stand-alone singles for Andy Grammer, Camila Cabello, Lauv and more. “Move” does, well, just that: makes you want to get up and shake to his intense pop cut.
