RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 4/9 – 4/15/17

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…
_____

JEFFREY JAMES – “Unsaid” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Fresh off the release of his EP on Friday, Nashville singer James throws it back to the earlier part of the 00’s with this smooth R&B and gospel tune. It’s understated, but really shines when he and a backing choir dive into a powerful hook. Check out the whole set!

_____

LOSTBOYCROW – “Real Name” (iTunes) (Spotify)
You’ve seen this guy all over PGTC and my playlists for some time, so it’s not a surprise that his new song is one of the independent highlights of this week. The electronic-pop song has a nice tropical influence in it, making it a solid choice for your summer playlist.

_____

MAGDALENA BAY – “Set Me Off” (iTunes) (Spotify)
This duo was last featured on the Rewind in January with the single “Neon”, though member Matthew Lewin also plays with a band that was featured last week, Tipling Rock. Future pop meets early 90’s R&B on this energetic release, another hot track for the two.

_____

THE NIGHT GAME – “The Outfield” (iTunes) (Spotify)
When we think of outfields, we usually think of the English group that gave us bops like “Your Love” and “Voices Of Babylon”. That being said, this track called “The Outfield” is a home run, especially if it’s already achieving New Music Friday list adds. Great work!

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 2/26 – 3/4/17

Record Rewind - March 5, 2017

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…
_____

JEFFREY JAMES – “Running Away” (iTunes) (Spotify)
James is no stranger to the Rewind, with “Both Ways” featured in October and “Hand Grenade” mentioned in January. Yeah, maybe we do like his tunes… can you tell? Updating his sound to a more dramatic, but anthemic pop style, the change is a good one for him.

_____

JOHNNY STIMSON – “Time Machine” (iTunes) (Spotify)
We’ve been bopping to Stimson’s top tracks for some time now, including songs like “Bright Side” and “Easy”. However, imagine our surprise when his latest EP, Yesterday, fell out of the sky on Friday. First track “Time” is a nice fusion of both retro and current pop.

_____

KYKO – “Dive In” (iTunes) (Spotify)
London performer Scott Verrill has been on the PGTC radar for a little under two years now. Needless to say, we’re preparing for an awesome EP next week called Wildfire. Stock up on your flame emojis! “Dive” blends indie rock and world music into one cool track.

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
AVI ON FIRE – “Win” (SoundCloud)
Jakil – “Every Time We Talk” (SoundCloud)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 1/22 – 1/28/17

Record Rewind - January 29, 2017

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

AARON TAOS – “Off My Mind” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Taos came onto my radar back in the fall of 2015 with songs like “Hands” and “Simple & Sober”, which got some repost action on my SoundCloud feed. His more pop-driven delivery, while still maintaining the usual indie sensibilities, makes for one enjoyable single.

_____

KEVIN GARRETT – “Little Bit Of You” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Well, what do you know? Two weeks in a row, two songs from Garrett. With an EP due next week, titled False Hope, it is a true hope that he delivers with, what I think will be, another excellent set of tracks. That lush vocal and smooth arrangement are just heavenly.

_____

KNGDAVD – “Medicine” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Something told us we needed a prescription for a little pop power this week, and now we’re just itching to get a refill. This New York act continues to impress me, but you already knew that from my support of “Poppies” and “Say My Name” last year. It’s a good one.

_____

RUSS MACKLIN featuring KYLE REYNOLDS – “Natural” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Macklin is a new name on the Rewind, but Reynolds was last on here about four months ago with a sync song called “Alive”. If you’re familiar with that tune, he takes a bit of a musical leap here. Luckily, both Macklin and Reynolds put in some super work on this jam.

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
Cody Lavaas – “Lie” (SoundCloud)
Jeffrey James – “Hand Grenade” (SoundCloud)
Jenna Kyle – “Dust” (SoundCloud)
Satellite Mode – “Secrets” (SoundCloud)
Smith & Thell – “February” (SoundCloud)
Tom Speight – “Willow Tree” (SoundCloud)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 10/16 – 10/22

Record Rewind - October 23, 2016

Our new Record Rewind is about highlighting the top new songs that you may have missed, or should discover, from many of my favorite independent acts out there. If you like what you see, let me know what you think!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

BEN HOBBS – “Take The Blame” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Hobbs last appeared on the Rewind two months ago with the song “Animals”, which had a good time in the musical zoo that we call the blog world. Sometimes you don’t know what you’ll get in that jungle of jams, but his consistent output this year is simply great.

_____

JEFFREY JAMES – “Both Ways” (iTunes) (Spotify)
James recently joined the roster of hot Nashville label South By Sea, and while his Walls EP (released back in April) was a solid set of songs, “Both” is a tasty tune that’s bound to expand his audience. With slick production and strong writing, it’s a winner for me.

_____

LAUV – “The Story Never Ends (Piano Version)” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Surprise! Just in case “Breathe” wasn’t enough for you this month, the latest track from Los Angeles singer and songwriter Ari Leff is a powerful piano ballad that recently aired during an episode of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy. Warning: the feels are real. Get a tissue.

_____

LOSTBOYCROW – “Stay A Little Longer” (iTunes) (Spotify)
This Los Angeles singer was on one of the first Rewinds in June with “Where It All Goes”, and where he keeps going is up! His new single has a very accessible sound that I feel could be a great opportunity for a sync. Can’t wait to watch this track fly up the charts!

_____

MARK ELLIOTT – “China Doll”
Elliott’s been on my radar since earlier this year, and I really enjoyed his summer single, the clever “Drink To Thunk”. Now, it’s the R&B-flavored “China” that returns him to the Rewind, the title track from his forthcoming EP. The full set should be a good listen.

_____

MATT WOODS – “Nothing Less” (iTunes) (Spotify)
How can you not love Woods’s voice? He makes it sound so effortless. The soulful London singer has way too many amazing songs to start listing them all, but they include “In The Dark”, “Impression” and “Ain’t No Use”. He has another excellent electronic tune.

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
CAMERON JONES – “Rose” (SoundCloud)
JON SANTANA featuring JOHN DAVIS – “Falling Down” (SoundCloud)
LONDUN – “Used To” (SoundCloud)
