NEW MUSIC FRIDAY: Releases For The Week of November 3, 2017

Will he Thrill the buying public?

If All goes well, we’ll be seeing a popular British singer at the top of the charts next week. However, as November begins, there is plenty of new music across all genres in stores now. Here are the albums and singles you need to know about:

SAM SMITH – The Thrill Of It All (iTunes)
Smith looks none too thrilled on the cover art and promotional pictures from his new era, but I’m sure he was overjoyed to make a new album for his many fans. The anticipated set is led by “Too Good At Goodbyes”, a top ten AC and Hot AC single that is just below the region on the Top 40 airwaves. It likely has the best shot of a #1 debut, though there are several more choices below.

MAROON 5 – Red Pill Blues (iTunes)
Beyond the controversy over its title, this album features several big hits from over the last year, including “Don’t Wanna Know”, “Cold” and “What Lovers Do”. Given the continued streaming and sales numbers on those singles, as well as a number of notable collaborations on the set, there’s potential for this release to exceed current expectations. We’ll see soon.

BLAKE SHELTON – Texoma Shore (iTunes)
This singer’s “I’ll Name The Dogs” is barking up the Country airplay survey, as the popular judge from The Voice prepares for the release of his 11th studio album. It’s almost certain that the album will top the genre-specific chart next week, though it may have to settle for the lower part of the top five (which is still solid enough) on the Billboard 200.

NEW MUSIC FRIDAY: Releases For The Week of December 2, 2016

Who hits, who flops, who tells your (chart) story?

Chart history has its eyes on you.

When it comes to the album chart, we have so many questions. Will it be a December to remember for new releases? Who’s going to surprise us with a new set? Will 2016’s Christmas albums ho-ho-hold the buying public’s attention and zoom to the top? I don’t have the answers to everything, but I do know this: here are the week’s notable album and single releases!

VARIOUS ARTISTS — The Hamilton Mixtape (iTunes)
Hamilton remains one of the most popular shows on Broadway, and this new set, featuring popular acts remaking songs from the original soundtrack, wants to be elected the president of the pop charts next week. Kelly Clarkson‘s take of “It’s Quiet Uptown” is charting in the lower rungs of the Hot AC chart. While it remains to be seen if these covers from Hamilton will chart as well as a musical like Hair‘s did, with four making the Hot 100’s top ten in 1969, the overall set is sure to be a winner with many.

JOHN LEGEND — Darkness And Light (iTunes)
You can find this performer on the above release, or you can check out his latest studio album this week. While radio shows him a little “Love”, as “Love Me Now” charts at multiple formats, the buying public should as well. Expect a debut somewhere in the top five on the Billboard 200, much like his other solo studio efforts.

THE ROLLING STONES — Blue & Lonesome (iTunes)
The Stones are the Stones, and even a full covers album is going to sell for the legendary rock group. “Just Your Fool” is receiving some minor airplay at the Triple A format. You’ll probably find this in the top ten, with the upper demo driving much of the total.

More albums out this week: Childish Gambino‘s “Awaken, My Love!” (iTunes), deadmau5‘s W:/2016ALBUM/ (iTunes), Kane Brown‘s Kane Brown (iTunes), Hairspray Live! (Soundtrack) (iTunes)

More EPs out this week: Grace VanderWaal‘s Perfectly Imperfect (iTunes), Matt Woods‘s Ain’t No Use (iTunes), Wanderer‘s C I T Y (iTunes)

New digital-only singles that you can buy this week include:
“Able”, Pharrell Williams (iTunes)
“Advice”, Kehlani (iTunes)
“Alone”, Alan Walker (iTunes)
“Angel By The Wings”, Sia (iTunes)
“Blue Christmas”, The Lumineers (iTunes)
