RECORD REWIND 2020: PGTC Picks, Week Eighteen

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
BRUCE WEIGNER – “Say To You” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Fifth appearance

This Los Angeles-based singer and songwriter has been fairly busy in the past year or so, creating songs for both himself and artists like musician and digital creator Scotty Sire and recent Songland contestant and songwriter CORii. “Say” is another quality release.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
DYLAN – “Good Enough” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance

It was good enough for some Spotify editorial love and it’s also good enough for the weekly Rewind report: 20-year-old Dylan has a winner with the newest cut from her forthcoming EP titled Red, out May 29. I look forward to hearing the last two songs on the set.

PICK OF THE WEEK: THREE
JAMIE SCOTT – “Friendly Fire” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Second appearance

Scott’s awesome music and fantastic songwriting have been a part of my life since 2011, especially the singles off Grafitti6’s Colours album and his 2014 solo outing My Hurricane, along with his various co-writes for other artists. This track is a very pleasant listen.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
ANSON SEABRA – “Hindenburg Lover”
BEN KESSLER – “Just Wanna Be Your Friend”
FLY BY MIDNIGHT – “LA Lonely”
KEVIN GARRETT – “It’s Gonna Be Me”
KODALINE – “Saving Grace”
WRABEL – “Somebody New”

RECORD REWIND 2020: PGTC Picks, Week Four

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…
_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
BRIGETTA & JAKE SCOTT – “How Did We Get Here?” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Third appearance / first appearance

Both of these performers were featured in separate episodes of the NBC songwriting competition Songland, though neither had the winning pitch for their respective artist. Now, the pair is together again and making fantastic music, including this beautiful ballad.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
FLY BY MIDNIGHT – “The Ad Above Your Head” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: 14th appearance

After recently moving to Los Angeles, the duo of Justin Bryte and Justin Slaven are wasting no time flying back onto the Rewind. A slight change of pace from some of their more recent tunes, the men still manage to put together a good song with a dreamy sound.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
JT ROACH – “Unforgettable”
MAX GEORGE – “That’s Not Me”

RECORD REWIND 2019: PGTC Picks, Week Forty Three

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…
_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
CXLOE – “Devil You Don’t” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Fifth appearance

This is the fourth single from CXLOE to appear on the Rewind this year and is already receiving support from influential Australian radio station Triple J, leading to some building action on Shazam down under. The darker electronic and pop cut is devilishly good.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
JULIANDER – “On & On” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance

After one EP and a series of singles through Sony Music in Sweden, singer and songwriter Juliander is now independent and he has a great hit to start off his next era. The smooth and enticing R&B-influenced cut should stay on (& on) your playlist through the fall.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
FLY BY MIDNIGHT – “Love Me Like A Friend”
SVRCINA – “Between Us”

_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
DRUMAQ – “Innit” (Spotify)

Just ahead of his mixtape Vitamin D, which debuts on Friday, this performer unleashes a very groovy side to the project on the new single to be released from it. The disco-tinged production packs a little nostalgia, but remains contemporary enough to sound fresh.

RECORD REWIND 2019: PGTC Picks, Week Fifteen

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
FLY BY MIDNIGHT – “Waiting Tables” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Eighth appearance

There’s definitely two seats at the table for these guys; I’ve been feasting on their releases for some time now, so the waiting period wasn’t long for this winner to arrive. The mellow retro-tinged pop single combines enough modern elements for a successful result.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
HANNAH JANE LEWIS – “Not Yours Never Was” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Fifth appearance

Following the release of the Rewind-approved cuts “Do It Without You” and “Last Night Every Night”, Lewis’s latest song is an easy add to the list, which is featured on her new self-titled EP. With so many great pop records in her catalog, she’ll continue to do well.

PICK OF THE WEEK: THREE
OVERSTREET – “All Nighter” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance

During the summer of 2017, Overstreet climbed as high as #14 on my personal chart with “Hold On”, though I enjoyed the majority of his songs during a stint with Island Records. Leaning towards a darker rock feel, this one could find support at Alternative radio.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
ALEC BAILEY – “Roseanne”
EBEN – “You The One”
HARRISON WHEELER featuring MARSHALL MAGIC – “Up All Night”
HUX – “Wreck”

RECORD REWIND 2019: PGTC Picks, Week Seven

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
BETTY WHO – “The One” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Seventh appearance

One of the album highlights from this past Friday’s pack of releases is the latest set from this pop performer, a dazzling project with so many catchy tunes. Several of them, including “I Remember” from a few weeks ago, are on here. This retro track is also fantastic.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
CXLOE – “I Can’t Have Nice Things” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Second appearance

Australian-based pop is having a great 2019 so far and it’s so good have CXLOE in the mix to continue that trend. Of course, her cut titled “Show You”, which was included on the Rewind last August, got a lot of love from Spotify. Her newest release is pretty catchy.

PICK OF THE WEEK: THREE
FELIX CARTAL & LIGHTS – “Love Me” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance (Lights records for Warner Bros. Records)

For the CanCon lover in all of us, check out this super collaboration that’s sure to do well up north and in the EDM chart world. Out just in time for Valentine’s Day on the 14th, it’s another great addition to the catalogs of both soloists. Get ready to move it all night.

PICK OF THE WEEK: FOUR
XYLØ – “Nothing Left To Say” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance

After a run of quality bops on the Disruptor label, a part of the Sony family, Paige Duddy’s solo project (formerly a duo with brother Chase) continues on with a new independent song and a forthcoming EP in just under two weeks. It’s a good preview of the project.
