NEW MUSIC FRIDAY: Releases For The Week of February 9, 2018

What’s new this Weeknd.

Movies and music: they just go together! Before you hit the cinema for the hottest flicks this weekend, here’s what you’ll find on digital services and in stores this Friday:

VARIOUS ARTISTS – Black Panther (Soundtrack) (iTunes)
With artist, curator, producer and songwriter Kendrick Lamar at the helm, you know this soundtrack is going to be amazing. Featuring duets with SZA (“All The Stars”), The Weeknd (“Pray For Me”) and many other acts, both this compilation and the film itself are expected to open extremely well. Notably, this album should have a large streaming advantage, given how well its radio singles have done thus far (and will do in the coming days.) Will this panther be the head of the animal kingdom? Even if it’s not, it’s sure going to roar.

VARIOUS ARTISTS – Fifty Shades Freed (Soundtrack) (iTunes)
The other notable soundtrack on this week’s schedule brings us tunes from the third and final movie in the Fifty Shades trilogy, a franchise that already has a #2 album (2015) and a #1 album (2017) under its belt. This set features a duet from Liam Payne and Rita Ora called “For You”, a minor hit on the Top 40 format, while original songs from Dua Lipa, Hailee Steinfeld and Julia Michaels, among others, should provide for another well-received release. Where will it debut? Stay tuned.

More albums out this week: Brian Fallon‘s Sleepwalkers (iTunes), Dashboard Confessional‘s Sleepwalkers (iTunes), Franz Ferdinand‘s Always Ascending (iTunes), MGMT‘s Little Dark Age (iTunes), The Wombats‘s Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life (iTunes)
