RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, May 27 – June 2, 2018

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independe2nt songs of the week…

_____

EMILY WARREN – “Paranoid” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Two previous appearances, most recently “Something To Hold On To” (July 2017)
Notes: We try not to let the pop paranoia sink in, though we suspect this song is a winner. Warren’s solo releases continue to shine!

_____

LAUV – “Enemies” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Ten previous appearances, most recently “Bracelet” (May 2018)
Notes: You know, we haven’t seen Lauv on the Rewind in… oh, a week! With his playlist era completed, this new tune is a highlight.

_____

LIV MIRALDI – “Dilemma” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance
Notes: Miraldi’s great remake of this massive single from 2002 takes a modern-day R&B classic and turns it into a sugary pop rush.

_____

PRETTY SISTER featuring WHITE GOLD – “Tension” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Two previous appearances, most recently “Thirsty” (November 2016) / First appearance
Notes: No sibling rivalry here! Zak Waters’s first cut in over a year is, by far, the filthiest and funkiest jam in the bunch this Sunday.

_____

R3HAB x QUINN LEWIS – “How You’ve Been” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance / Four previous appearances, most recently “Weekend Luv” (April 2018)
Notes: When PGTC favorite Lewis teams up with one of the hottest DJs/producers around, you know it’s going to be one giant bop!

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
ALLIE X – “Focus”
BETTY WHO – “All Things”
CHELSEA CUTLER – “Someone Else”
FLY BY MIDNIGHT – “All The Feels”
NICHOLAS ROBERTS – “Growing Up”
REYNA – “Baby Forget It”
VINCINT – “Remember Me”

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 7/16 – 7/22/17

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

EMILY WARREN – “Something To Hold On To” (iTunes) (Spotify)
After enjoying Warren’s previous single from May, “Hurt By You”, I’m just as impressed with the follow-up single, a powerful ballad that balances its tender moments with more dramatic ones. It is time for Warren to shine as a solo artist, and this could do the trick.

_____

LELAND – “Mattress” (iTunes) (Spotify)
From Daya to Selena Gomez to Troye Sivan, singer and songwriter Brett McLaughlin’s been on quite the hot streak as of late. This is the pop bop you need in your life this weekend in all its slick and sensual glory. It certainly deserves to be a streaming and radio hit!

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
BIEN – “Flashback” (SoundCloud)
BRUNO MAJOR – “Cold Blood” (SoundCloud)
DANIELLA MASON – “Tell Me It’s Over” (SoundCloud)
WEEKEND WARS – “Champagne Eyes” (SoundCloud)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 4/30 – 5/6/17

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…
_____

BRUNO MAJOR – “Fair-Weather Friend” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Major’s lovely lunar project continues on with another stellar entry, which is probably my favorite cut since November’s “Easily”. It brings me back to those great neo soul artists from the late 90’s or early 00’s, like D’Angelo and Maxwell. I love that smooth sound.

_____

LOSTBOYCROW – “Devil’s In The Backseat” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Just last month, this Los Angeles performer was featured on the Rewind with “Real Name”. So, I guess the real name of the game is that he has another winner. When it comes to killer songs, this R&B-flavored track puts him in the front seat and driving to the top.

_____

VÉRITÉ – “Bout You” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Singer Kelsey Byrne is out with another single off her Somewhere In Between album, due June 23, one of my most anticipated sets for the summer. Though I enjoyed “When You’re Gone”, the strong melody and dramatics of this one makes it more instant for me.

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
courtship. – “Sunroof” (SoundCloud)
Emily Warren – “Hurt By You” (SoundCloud)
Late Night Episode – “Talk About Love” (SoundCloud)
machineheart – “Shelter” (SoundCloud)
Michl – “Waste?” (SoundCloud)

RADIO REPORT: POP! Goes The Picks (December 2016)

Radio Report - December 2016

It’s time once again to analyze the airwaves and find out if your favorite new releases will be lighting up your local station’s playlist during the month. Which tunes will climb to the top and which ones will hit a stop? Here’s a selection of new singles being serviced in December in this month’s Radio Report.

BEBE REXHA – “I Got You” (Warner Bros., December 6 – CHR/Top 40)
Album: TBA
Past CHR History: Despite her various accomplishments as a writer and a featured singer, Rexha’s two main-credited chart entries have barely scratched the top 30 at the format. This one is gaining some solid early stations, but will radio give her another chance?

PHANTOGRAM – “Same Old Blues” (Republic, December 6 – Alternative)
Album: Three (2016)
Past ALT History: This New York City duo, consisting of Sarah Barthel and Josh Carter, recently hit the top ten on this format with a song that also reached #2 on my personal chart, “You Don’t Get Me High Anymore”. Their latest single should be another winner.

RAG’N’BONE MAN – “Human” (RCA, December 6 – Alternative)
Album: Human (2017)
Past ALT History: This massive international single is currently top ten on iTunes in at least 20 countries around the globe, with #1 peaks in Austria, Belgium, Germany and Switzerland. Needless to say, all that momentum should help spread the buzz here quickly.

LOST KINGS featuring EMILY WARREN – “Phone Down” (Disruptor/RCA, December 13 – CHR/Top 40)
Album: TBA
Past CHR History: Robert Gainley and Dr. No are best known for their remixes, much like how The Chainsmokers began. (The two acts share a manager.) Warren was the featured vocalist on FRENSHIP’s “Capsize”, which just missed the top 20 several weeks ago.

Which of these new songs would you like to see atop the charts? Let me know! Comment below or click the “Get Social!” tab above to find PGTC on social media.

RADIO REPORT: POP! Goes The Picks (August 2016)

Radio Report - August 2016

It’s time once again to analyze the airwaves and find out if your favorite new releases will be lighting up your local station’s playlist during the month. Which tunes will climb to the top and which ones will hit a stop? Here’s a selection of new singles being serviced in August in this month’s Radio Report.

(I’ve reorganized the report a little for August, highlighting two releases from each radio format that I usually cover. It’s just a test, so let me know what you think!)

CHR/TOP 40

FRENSHIP featuring EMILY WARREN – “Capsize” (Columbia, August 16)

ANNE-MARIE – “Alarm” (Major Tom’s/Asylum/RRP, August 23)
Album: TBA

HOT AC

ANDY GRAMMER – “Fresh Eyes” (S-Curve/Hollywood, August 15)
Album: TBA (expected later this year)
Past Hot AC History: Grammer’s accumulated a string of six top 40 singles at the Hot AC format, including three top tens and a #1.
Adam’s Top 40: #39 as of July 31, 2016

AURORA – “I Went Too Far” (Glassnote, August 22)
Album: All My Demons Greeting Me As A Friend (2016)
Past Hot AC History: AURORA has never charted at Hot AC, but “Conqueror” was a minor hit at Alternative radio this past spring.
Adam’s Top 40: #10 Next In Line as of July 31, 2016

ALTERNATIVE

JUDAH & THE LION – “Take It All Back” (Caroline, August 9)
Album: Folk Hop N’ Roll (2016)
Past Alternative History: Judah & The Lion has no prior chart history at any format, and only minor spins from the Triple A panel.
Adam’s Top 40: In The Mix as of July 31, 2016

DREAMERS – “Sweet Disaster” (Fairfax/Hollywood, August 16)
Album: This Album Does Not Exist (2016)
Past Alternative History: This trio has two minor charting songs to their credit at the format, “Wolves (You Got Me)” and “Drugs”.

TRIPLE A

O.A.R. – “I Go Through” (Vanguard/Concord, August 8)
Album: XX (2016)
Past AAA History: O.A.R. remains well-liked at Triple A; “Shattered (Turn The Car Around)” held at the top for five weeks in 2008.
Adam’s Top 40: #4 Next In Line as of July 31, 2016

THE SAINT JOHNS – “Testifier” (Kemosabe/RED, August 8)
Album: Dead Of Night (2016)
Past AAA History: The Nashville duo’s previous single, “Lost The Feeling”, made the top 50 earlier this year, their first chart entry.

What’s premiering later this month?
GREEN DAY – “Bang Bang” [Alternative] (Warner Bros., August 16)
NORAH JONES – “Carry On” [Triple A] (Blue Note/Capitol, August 15)
SAINT MOTEL – “Move” [Alternative and Triple A] (Elektra/RRP, August 22/23)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 5/29 – 6/4

Record Rewind - June 5, 2016

Our new Record Rewind is about highlighting the top new songs that you may have missed, or should discover, from many of my favorite independent acts out there. We’ll be testing it out this month, so if you like what you see, let me know what you think!

Across the world of SoundCloud and my Indie Summer Mix on Spotify, these records stuck out as my favorite independent tunes of the week…

SINGLES

Adam Friedman
ADAM FRIEDMAN featuring MIKE POSNER – “Lemonade” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Drink up on the latest single from Friedman and his pal Posner, a tangy track about a man looking for love. (It’s not that simple.)

Alexander Jean
ALEXANDER JEAN – “So Bad” (iTunes) (Spotify)
“Bad” is good when it comes to this highlight from the six-song Head High EP. You’ll be just as tempted as the protagonists here.

Bryce Fox
BRYCE FOX – “Voodoo” (iTunes) (Spotify)
This Los Angeles Fox is on the run with his cool third single, an edgy pop cut that just might have you believing in his sonic spirit.

Kiah Victoria
KIAH VICTORIA – “Cold War” (iTunes) (Spotify)
You know that voice from Postmodern Jukebox, and now, Victoria shines through her story of struggle in this smooth soul song.

Mark Elliott
MARK ELLIOTT – “Drink To Thunk”
We got our first taste of Elliott earlier this year with “Dead End Love Affair”. His new electro-pop jam may get us drite to wrunk.

R.LUM.R
R.LUM.R – “Frustrated” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Reggie Williams is several cuts deep into his project, and if you’re looking for a night drive necessity for your list, this one is hot.

Vinyl Thief
VINYL THIEF – “Healing” (iTunes) (Spotify)
These Nashville guys will not only steal your records, but your attention too. It’s true. The slick song leads their forthcoming EP.

MUSIC VIDEOS

FRENSHIP
FRENSHIP featuring EMILY WARREN – “Capsize” (iTunes) (Spotify)
The Los Angeles duo is having a major moment on Spotify with this pop gem, but hey, we knew the two would break months ago.

Sody and Martin Luke Brown
SODY & MARTIN LUKE BROWN – “Wasted Youth” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Brown is a blog favorite, and newcomer Sody has some nice potential. Two is better than one on this, and it’s not “Wasted” at all.
