RECORD REWIND 2019: PGTC Picks, Week Thirty Seven

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…
_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
JT ROACH – “Make It Up To You” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Second appearance

After his win on the NBC show Songland, leading to his original composition “Somebody To Love” being cut by OneRepublic, the Los Angeles-based singer and songwriter delivers another cool lyric and song with a much softer production, which flows very well.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
WRABEL – “Flying” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Eighth appearance

A few cuts from this performer’s new EP titled One Of Those Happy People (which came out on Friday) have already been included on the Rewind since the spring. This track, a groovy and glitzy gem that was written with Jesse Shatkin and Jesse Thomas, is a bop.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
DRUMAQ – “Granola”
EMILY VAUGHN – “Baddie”
GABRIELLE APLIN – “Kintsugi”
PRETTY SISTER & MARCLO – “Tequila”
YOUR SMITH – “Man Of Weakness”

RECORD REWIND 2019: PGTC Picks, Week Seventeen

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
EMILY VAUGHN – “Jealous” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Sixth appearance

Following the release of her EP Bitch Bops, perhaps one of the best EP titles of the year so far, Vaughn’s new collection of songs is a great listen for any pop fan. Two cuts from the set have been noted here in the last few months and this new cut is another fun jam.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
KIM PETRAS – “Broken” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Fifth appearance

Petras continues her streak of top pop releases with another appearance on the Rewind, which also seems to be reacting well at the major digital platforms. With her usual writing and production team in the mix, she serves an edgy ballad that should endure here.

PICK OF THE WEEK: THREE
LAUV – “Drugs & The Internet” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: 15th appearance

This guy is also no stranger to the Rewind: he’s climbing up my personal chart with a tune from earlier this year, the Troye Sivan-assisted “I’m So Tired…”, which ranks at #11 this week. Co-written and produced by Jon Bellion, it’s a cool song and music video.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
ALY & AJ, “Don’t Go Changing”
BAKER GRACE, “Illest”
DANIELLA MASON, “Get Me Out Of My Head”
FROY, “Crash”
GOLDEN COAST, “Contagious”
LIKEABLE, “So About Last Night…”
MAGDALENA BAY, “Only If You Want It”
NICK WILSON, “Let Me Hold You”
SAM CREIGHTON, “Smile”
SHY MARTIN, “Out Of My Hands”
SWEETBOY, “Cycling”
THE DRIVER ERA, “Welcome To The End Of Your Life”

RECORD REWIND 2019: PGTC Picks, Week Sixteen

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
BENEDICT CORK – “Funny How Things Change” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Second appearance

This English performer’s previous single “Fear Of Lonely” was noted on an edition of the Rewind about a month ago, but this single also caught my ear pretty quickly. Slowing it down with a classic soft pop release, Cork’s cut feels ready for radio and the big screen.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
BLAKE ROSE – “Best Of Me” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Third appearance

Australian singer Blake Rose hasn’t “Lost” his momentum on our weekly recap, though that was his last title to appear on here. The latest of his three released singles so far stays firmly in his comfortable pop/rock lane, but with a more pronounced alternative feel.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
ADAM SAMPLE, “Not Tonight”
CHRIS AYER featuring LACES, “Running In Reverse”
CRUISR, “Get Out”
EMILY VAUGHN, “Bitch”
KYLE REYNOLDS, “Baptized”
SINCLAIR featuring JINKA, “Drop-Dead Knockout”
WINGTIP, “Broken Bones”

_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
BETTY WHO – “The One” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Seventh appearance

One of the album highlights from this past Friday’s pack of releases is the latest set from this pop performer, a dazzling project with so many catchy tunes. Several of them, including “I Remember” from a few weeks ago, are on here. This retro track is also fantastic.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
CXLOE – “I Can’t Have Nice Things” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Second appearance

Australian-based pop is having a great 2019 so far and it’s so good have CXLOE in the mix to continue that trend. Of course, her cut titled “Show You”, which was included on the Rewind last August, got a lot of love from Spotify. Her newest release is pretty catchy.

PICK OF THE WEEK: THREE
FELIX CARTAL & LIGHTS – “Love Me” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance (Lights records for Warner Bros. Records)

For the CanCon lover in all of us, check out this super collaboration that’s sure to do well up north and in the EDM chart world. Out just in time for Valentine’s Day on the 14th, it’s another great addition to the catalogs of both soloists. Get ready to move it all night.

PICK OF THE WEEK: FOUR
XYLØ – “Nothing Left To Say” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance

After a run of quality bops on the Disruptor label, a part of the Sony family, Paige Duddy’s solo project (formerly a duo with brother Chase) continues on with a new independent song and a forthcoming EP in just under two weeks. It’s a good preview of the project.

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 8/6 – 8/12/17

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

CARLIE HANSON – “Why Did You Lie?” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Hanson is a new name for me, but I’m hoping that she’ll be around for a long time. “Lie” is one of the best pop debuts of the year so far, and that’s the truth! The undeniably catchy single should’ve been on the radio yesterday, but I’m sure it’ll get there pretty soon.

_____

MATT WOODS – “Nervous” (iTunes) (Spotify)
You know I love Woods’s exquisite and emotive voice, the one that first captured my attention back in January 2015 with single “In The Dark”. “Nervous” leads the forthcoming EP from the London-based performer, which should be another excellent set of songs.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
EMILY VAUGHN – “Priority” (SoundCloud)
VHS COLLECTION – “Fire” (SoundCloud)
WILDWOOD – “Secrets” (SoundCloud)
