Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…
_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
DRUMAQ – “Innit” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Third appearance

Just ahead of his mixtape Vitamin D, which debuts on Friday, this performer unleashes a very groovy side to the project on the new single to be released from it. The disco-tinged production packs a little nostalgia, but remains contemporary enough to sound fresh.

RECORD REWIND 2019: PGTC Picks, Week Eighteen

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
FINNEAS – “I Lost A Friend” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: 11th appearance

He’s one of the most consistent performers on the weekly recap post, so it’s no surprise that the newest track by Finneas is included in this weekend’s review. The tender pop ballad turned powerful rock stomper is another emotional one, but a really excellent song.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
LO LO – “Stay Up” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Third appearance

It’s been a couple of months since the Canadian performer appeared on the Rewind with the title cut from Sweater Collection, a set that came out last Friday. Combining playful pop production and great lyrics, it’s easy to hear why this nine-track album is so great.

PICK OF THE WEEK: THREE
WRABEL – “The Real Thing” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Fourth appearance

Since going independent, singer and songwriter Stephen Wrabel has enjoyed a number of songs making the Rewind post, including this track that was released on Friday. The soulful pop/rock ballad includes some interesting production and a really relatable lyric.

_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
EMILY BURNS – “Too Cool” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Second appearance

If I said I wasn’t a big fan of Burns’s latest track, then I would be a, ahem, damn good liar. (Not really.) The follow-up to that bop is also good and comes with a fun and colorful video too. Co-written by a PGTC alum, Martin Luke Brown, this release is cool with us.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
ASTN – “Feel Nothing”
BRUNS – “In The Garden”
CHRIS AYER – “Mad Eye”
DES ROCS – “Dead Ringer”

RECORD REWIND 2019: PGTC Picks, Week Three

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
ALEC BAILEY – “Grip” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance

Former Vine star Bailey is earning some praise for his second original song, the follow-up to “Callin'” from October of last year. The 22-year-old performer has a fairly big fan base from his years of covering and creating music, so watch out for his upcoming tracks.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
LAUREN AQUILINA – “If Looks Could Kill” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Second appearance

Aquilina’s prior appearance on the weekly post came back in September with her release called “Psycho”. This week, not only is her latest solo cut out, but she also appears on “FU4E”, an EP cut by the duo Los Kings. Both tracks are quality additions to her catalog.

PICK OF THE WEEK: THREE
MISS BENNY – “Rendezvous” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance

Actor and social media star Ben J. Pierce previously released songs under the artist name Benny, but as Miss Benny, he’s looking to take things to the next level. With a fierce sound that’s catchy and confident, 2019 should be a great year for the teenage performer.

Notes: Known for a few dance and electronic collaborations, Australia’s Rose and his edgy pop release are certainly winners for me.

FLY BY MIDNIGHT – “You Belong” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Fifth appearance
Notes: The New York City duo is certainly flying with the latest single from their forthcoming set Rerunning, a dreamy pop delight.
