RECORD REWIND 2019: PGTC Picks, Week Thirteen

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
CAPPA – “I Do” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Seventh appearance

It’s been about four months since this artist last appeared on the Rewind with her song “Sux”, and her latest track definitely doesn’t suck whatsoever. Written with Aaron Blackmar, the lighter pop tune has a pleasant melody, while still preserving a playful attitude.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
JESSE SAINT JOHN – “Crying” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Fifth appearance

Released as a part of a two-track single with an updated version of his former Rewind pick “What Do U Like”, you might need some tissues (sold seperately) when you check this cut out for the first time. The retro-tinged electronic sound finds just the right groove.

(no video available as of 3/31)

PICK OF THE WEEK: THREE
SVRCINA – “All I Wanna Do” (iTunes)
Previously on the Rewind: Ninth appearance

From “I Do” to “All I Wanna Do”, the latest Rewind entry for this Nashville performer may not be a hot Sheryl Crow cover, but it’s a pretty catchy single in its own right. Co-written with Ben Eggebrecht and Michael McEachern, it’s another super add to her catalog.

_____

KIM PETRAS – “Close Your Eyes” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Third appearance
Notes: Face the spooky set called Turn Off The Light, Vol. 1, a new Halloween-themed EP from Petras. This song is one sweet treat.

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 9/3 – 9/9/17

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

CAPE CUB – “Flowers” (iTunes) (Spotify)
It feels like we’ve been waiting forever for the return of Chad Male and Cape Cub, with his most recent tunes dropping in November of last year on an EP called 6am. With “Flowers” firmly in bloom, the radio potential on this electropop release is certainly growing.

_____

MATT WOODS – “Craving” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Serving vocals and giving me life once more, Woods’s second single from his forthcoming EP, and the follow-up to “Nervous”, has a way of pulling you in and sticking around in your brain. He effortlessly glides through this smooth neo soul single. It is really lovely.

_____

UNION MOON – “Red Bow” (iTunes) (Spotify)
This is the first time on the Rewind for Union Moon, though his pack of three singles to date is pretty good. If you know the work of The Fray, then you may already be aware that this is member Joe King’s solo effort. “Red” is a solid pick for an early morning listen.

DANIELLA MASON – “Cover The Earth” (SoundCloud)
FINNEAS – “I’m In Love Without You” (SoundCloud)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 8/13 – 8/19/17

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

ALY & AJ – “Take Me” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Returning to their original name for the first time since 2009, sisters Alyson and Amanda Joy Michalka left the pop world shook on Friday with the release of their new track. The 80’s synth-pop influence is real on this top tune, which makes it all the more lovable.

_____

BONNIE MCKEE – “Thorns” (iTunes) (Spotify)
She’s a super singer/songwriter with a little PGTC history: her “Stars In Your Heart” was noted in the Rewind from the week before Christmas, while “Somebody” and “American Girl” have both hit my chart. The prickly pop single is deliciously dark and intriguing.

_____

DANIELLA MASON – “Cruel Summer” (iTunes) (Spotify)
I would be the one to scream “Hot Bananarama remake!” upon seeing the title of this next track, but it’s not actually a cover. Mason has already been noted twice on the Rewind this summer, and her irresistible pop gem will shimmy its way onto your latest playlist.

_____

TYLER HILTON – “Overtime” (iTunes) (Spotify)
One of the great albums from my freshman year of high school was Hilton’s The Tracks Of set, and I’m happy to report that I’m still digging his music 13 years later. The bluesy pop/rock cut is definitely a winner, showcasing all that’s made him great over the years.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
BIEN – “Electric Dream” (SoundCloud)
STALGIA – “Talk To My Skin” (SoundCloud)
