RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 2/19 – 2/25/17

Record Rewind - February 26, 2017

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…
_____

BEN HOBBS – “Shame” (iTunes) (Spotify)
This is the third time on the Rewind for London singer Hobbs, who last appeared in October with the song “Take The Blame”. At this point, I think I’m probably verging on a stan. Anyways, for me, this tune recalls 1987 in pop music, which makes for a fantastic result.

_____

BRUNO MAJOR – “Just The Same” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Major’s had a major presence on the Rewind with his lovely lunar project, and his latest piece of moon music is a super blend of R&B and gospel roots, mixed with a hint of pop. The pure and emotional cut is one of his best of the set so far. Can’t wait for the next one.

_____

EMMA DEWING – “Buttons” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Making her debut on the Rewind is a California singer that got a SoundCloud repost from me in 2016 on her remake of 1991’s “Don’t Cry” by Guns N’ Roses. Her latest single is a change of pace, a bouncy bop that’s equal parts poppy and theatrical. Watch out for her.

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
Benjamin Poss – “Brainwashed” (SoundCloud)
BIYO – “Focus” (SoundCloud)
Daniel Feels x Robert Gillies – “On My Way” (SoundCloud)
Lyon Hart – “Delusional” (SoundCloud)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 7/10 – 7/16

Record Rewind - July 17, 2016

Our new Record Rewind is about highlighting the top new songs that you may have missed, or should discover, from many of my favorite independent acts out there. If you like what you see, let me know what you think!

Across the world of SoundCloud and my Indie Summer Mix on Spotify, these records stuck out as my favorite independent tunes of the week…

_____

CARDBOARD KIDS – “I Don’t Need Love” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Several tracks by this Nashville quartet have been featured in the Rewind over these last few weeks, and if you’re in the mood for a new band suggestion, they have a good thing going with their new EP, Mint. “Don’t” is one of the highlights in the five-track set.

_____

GREER – “Love Me Less”
Boston’s Greer Wilson recently uploaded a pair of tracks, collaborating once again with Christian Medice, a co-writer on a couple of top ten hits on my personal chart from 2014. With a good lyric and a good bounce, he’s got a nice jam for the blog community.

_____

HARLETSON – “Say Our Goodbyes (Quarter Song)” (iTunes) (Spotify)
The trio of Weston Wilson, Jackson Singleton and Nathan Harrington is off to a great start with their debut single, which follows a number of cover videos since last fall. You’ll want to invest more than a few quarters in this future radio hit. Look out for them.

_____

KAPTAN – “Numbers” (iTunes) (Spotify)
The streaming numbers don’t lie; with over six million plays to date, Andrew de Torres’s project is a hit. Of course, you knew that already; he’s been featured on my PGTC playlists for nearly a year. His latest song is a solid addition to his diverse music catalog.

_____

KIAH VICTORIA – “I Ain’t Goin Nowhere” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Summer never sounded so good for this New York singer and songwriter. With two massive tracks to date, she is definitely going to be around for some time. Serving empowerment and intelligence, it sends an important message during a time of uncertainty.

_____

TAY SALEM – “Iron” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Salem is a new act on my radar, and the London musician doesn’t disappoint with this track. He could have a cinematic future if a good music supervisor finds his work. He paints with dark and lush tones that will grab you from the first listen. Very cool single.

_____

VHS COLLECTION – “Ghost” (iTunes) (Spotify)
In a week of Ghostbusters coverage in the media, I ain’t ‘fraid of no “Ghost”. In fact, I’m embracing this one. The New York group pops in a new tape and comes out with a danceable little ditty. If you’re headed to Chicago for Lollapalooza, they play on Sunday.

_____

For more new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
CHERRYADE – “The Crown” (SoundCloud)
DANIEL FEELS featuring CASSO – “Eyes Closed” (SoundCloud)
FINE PRINT – “Matter” (SoundCloud)
SKIES – “Hold On” (SoundCloud)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 6/12 – 6/18

Record Rewind - June 19, 2016

Our new Record Rewind is about highlighting the top new songs that you may have missed, or should discover, from many of my favorite independent acts out there. We’ll be testing it out this month, so if you like what you see, let me know what you think!

Across the world of SoundCloud and my Indie Summer Mix on Spotify, these records stuck out as my favorite independent tunes of the week…

_____

BOH DORAN – “Breathe” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Last year, we posted about Doran’s first couple of singles, “Rainbow” and “White Knuckles”, the latter of which hit the top ten on several Spotify Viral lists. Two days ago, she issued her latest single with no fanfare at all. It’s a pretty ballad with radio potential.

_____

DANIEL FEELS – “Parachute”
New York-based singer/songwriter Dan Goldberger adds to his Distractions, pt. I EP with this cut, which also premiered in video form on the same day. The musical chameleon has given us a big range of genres and textures so far, and this certainly adds to it.

_____

DECO – “Apollo” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Can our pop bops from King Deco exist at the same time as another act simply called Deco? The answer is, yes. Well, I hope so. It actually marks the third cut we’ve enjoyed from the English act, following “Turn Around” and “Tell Me Lies”. No lie, they’re cool.

_____

JORDAN GABLE – “Fool Of Me” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Gable took it way back to the 60’s on his previous single, “Want U Anyway”, and now, he takes his time machine forward and into the 80’s. The indie pop record sits nicely with many recent blog songs, with a pleading hook that really brings it home. Get into it.

_____

KINGTIDES – “Silhouettes”
This North Carolina duo has been on our radar since last year, when “Drive Through The Night” first appeared online. Riding on a synth pop vibe that explodes into an energetic chorus, this new song has not been fully appreciated yet, so get those reposts up.

_____

MAGGIE ROGERS – “Alaska” (iTunes) (Spotify)
It’s amazing what a co-sign from Pharrell Williams can do, but the act in question has to be an extra special one that can also hold their own. For newcomer Rogers, she seems to be doing alright so far. Ethereal and pleasant, “Alaska” is the current state of pop.

_____

NAWAS – “Wrong” (iTunes) (Spotify)
This Nashville act has been getting some huge buzz over the last few months, as their second single shines with major playlists, as well as a top ten peak on Hype Machine’s overall chart. Jake Nawas and his pals can pump out a powerful production. Stay tuned.

_____

SAY SAY – “Summer Girl” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Los Angeles’s Adam Reiter and Jesse Gurtis have teamed up for a new single that I’d say (say) is great for the season. Beyond that obvious title, it’s a cheery record, beaming a bright pop ray down on the music world. Pool party, anyone? Soak this hot track up.

_____

SERAMIC – “The Things You Do” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Smooth. We love smooth. Singer Marcus Foster keeps his momentum going with this retro gem, the last song to be released off a new EP called Found. Imagine listening to your favorite soul album late at night, alone, swaying to the groove. It’s a good feeling.

_____

THØSS – “Benchwarmer” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Earlier this year, THØSS scored with the blog and streaming hit “IWITW”, which stands at 450,000+ plays on Spotify. Now, that single and a few additional songs can be found on his first EP. The title cut rocks with some edge and a moody lyric. It’s real solid.

_____

VINYL THIEF – “Here In The Moment” (iTunes) (Spotify)
The excitement continues for this Nashville quartet’s EP Touch, due on July 8. “Here” is the second song to be released from it, a new wave meets future pop jam that keeps the beat going. If you need a new emerging act with a slick sound, these guys are great.

_____

ZEKE FINN – “Love Song” (iTunes) (Spotify)
There are just a few new names in our Rewind this week, and this trio from Brooklyn is one of them. It’s not their debut single, as they’ve been releasing tracks for over a year, but it’s one that appears to have broadened their blog audience. It’s a nice pop tune.
