NEW MUSIC FRIDAY: Releases For The Week of August 4, 2017

Brett’s lookin’ at a “Good” debut.

New month, new music. It’s a light schedule for albums this week, but you’ll find plenty of great sounds in all the new singles at your fingertips. Stream away! Here are the albums and singles you need to know this Friday:

This popular country singer has built up a solid amount of hit tunes since 2013, and his self-titled fourth studio album is sure to give him some more. Unfortunately, current single “Somethin’ I’m Good At” looks like it won’t be adding to that list, as it barely moves up at the airplay chart. However, when it comes to the album, it’ll likely top the format-specific survey.

MONDO COZMO – Plastic Soul (iTunes)
The first full-length album from Josh Ostrander’s latest project is now in stores, featuring the Triple A chart-topper “Shine” and current radio single “Automatic”. It should have a solid debut next week, especially on the Alternative chart.

More albums out this week: Dylan Scott‘s Dylan Scott (Deluxe) (iTunes), NOW That’s What I Call Music, Vol. 63 (iTunes)

NEW MUSIC FRIDAY: Releases For The Week of September 11, 2015

His "Lose" is winning.

His “Lose” is winning.

This week’s New Music Friday takes us to the Prairie State and beyond with a solid pack of releases, including a number of great new singles and instant grat tracks. Here’s a look at the week’s new album and single releases:

  • BRETT ELDREDGE — Illinois (iTunes)
    • His last studio album just missed the top ten on the Billboard 200 a few years ago, but I think Eldredge has a great chance to make it in this time around. Of course, his latest effort is being aided by the single “Lose My Mind”, a top five single on the Country radio chart that could grab the top spot come October. We shall see pretty soon.
  • BRING ME THE HORIZON — That’s The Spirit (iTunes)
    • This English quintet has a bigger following overseas, especially in Australia, than in the United States, but they get a fair amount of fans out for the first week. Like Eldredge, they’ve debuted in the top 20 on the Billboard 200, but a top ten set has yet to happen. Perhaps their spirits will be lifted with the final result this time.
  • DURAN DURAN — Paper Gods (iTunes)
    • It’s incredible to see this act still putting out great music several decades into their career. If you read up on my top 40 chart, you know that their single “Pressure Off” has been #1 for three weeks now. There are many shining tunes in this set of songs and it’s definitely my pick of the week.
  • More albums out this week: Austin Plaine‘s Austin Plaine (iTunes), Beirut‘s No No No (iTunes), Ben Folds‘s So There (iTunes), Colton Dixon‘s The Calm Before The Storm (iTunes), Gary Clark Jr.‘s The Story Of Sonny Boy Slim (iTunes), Hollywood Vampires‘s Hollywood Vampires (iTunes), Jay Rock‘s 90059 (iTunes), Jess Glynne‘s I Cry When I Laugh (U.S. edition) (iTunes), Jewel‘s Picking Up The Pieces (iTunes), Leona Lewis‘s I Am (iTunes), Nero‘s Between II Worlds (iTunes), Slayer‘s Repentless (iTunes)
  • More EPs out this week: Aaron Krause‘s Jade (iTunes), Dallas Smith‘s Kids With Cars (iTunes), Francesco Yates‘s Francesco Yates (iTunes), Marty‘s Marty For President (iTunes)

TURN IT UP TUESDAY: What’s New In Stores This Week (August 6)

This ain't no Teenage Dream.

Number “One”, perhaps?

From the fine folks in the world of folk to the pop acts who pop, here are all the releases you need to know about for the week of August 6:

  • Americana and folk duo The Civil Wars have this week’s biggest release with their second full-length album, a self-titled effort. With first single, “The One That Got Away”, currently in the top 100 on iTunes, it’s sure to debut high and be on the minds of the GRAMMY committee during award season. Look for it to potentially debut at #1, kicking out Robin Thicke from the top. (iTunes)
  • His single took several months to break at Country radio, but Brett Eldredge is looking at a winner this time around with the song “Don’t Ya”. You can find it on the album Bring You Back, which is out this week. (iTunes)
  • The 47th edition in the Now! That’s What I Call Music series is in stores today. The 20-song compilation features recent hits by Bruno Mars, Imagine Dragons and Selena Gomez, among others. (iTunes)
  • After a European release in June, KT Tunstall‘s latest album, Invisible Empire // Crescent Moon, is landing on shelves. It’s her first album to be co-released in the U.S. through jazz label Blue Note Records. (iTunes)
  • Best known as an actor, but also an accomplished musician, Hugh Laurie issues his second album, Didn’t It Rain. It recently hit the top 5 in the United Kingdom. (iTunes)
  • Other albums out this week include a deluxe edition of Elvis Presley‘s Elvis At Stax (iTunes), Home by Rudimental (iTunes) and the Animal EP by Ryan Star (iTunes).

New digital-only singles that you can buy this week include:

  • “Days Of Gold”, a new track from Jake Owen. (iTunes)
  • “Shake”, the first single from The Head And The Heart‘s forthcoming album Let’s Be Still. (iTunes)
  • “The Wire”, another taste of Haim‘s album, Days Are Gone. (iTunes)
  • “Wild Child”, a new song from Brett Dennen. (iTunes)

Next week, it’s all about country superstar Luke Bryan and his Crash My Party album, but Glen Campbell could offer up a surprise hit in See You There as he reinterprets his past singles. We’ll give you a preview next Tuesday!
