Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
PHANGS – “When I’m All Alone” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Tenth appearance

Nashville’s Jake Germany is ready to slay the world with his album Who’s Gonna Break Your Heart Tonight? later this summer, as we get a nice slice of perfect pop for an appetizer. Co-written by songwriting wizard Bonnie McKee, it’s a tasty and tantalizing tune!

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
WOLF – “Play Dead” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Third appearance

New York singer/songwriter Julia Wolf has been putting out some really great music so far this year, including her last two releases “Ghost” and “Pillow”, which both were included in the Rewind. The mellow sound of this song is fresh yet familiar and quality stuff.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
BLAKE ROSE – “Ordinary People”
CARO – “Part Of Me”
CONOR MAYNARD – “Nothing But You”
DIXIE D’AMELIO – “Be Happy”

RECORD REWIND 2020: PGTC Picks, Week Twenty

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
BLAKE ROSE – “Rest Of Us” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Seventh appearance

Australian singer/songwriter Rose continues to put out some quality releases, including his new track from earlier in the week. Co-written with Tim Pagnotta, best known for his work with acts like Neon Trees and Walk The Moon, this ballad is his best in a while.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
JAKE SCOTT – “Learning To Love You” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Fifth appearance

Learning has been an essential part of this time of self-isolation, so it’s no surprise that Scott’s track about learning to love becomes an essential part of this week’s independent spotlight. Co-written with longtime collaborator Thomas Macken, it’s a very pretty cut.

_____

DES ROCS – “Wayne”

_____

Rose may have been gone for a minute, but he’s back! With his first single on the Rewind since August, the moody tune is a winner.

RECORD REWIND 2019: PGTC Picks, Week Thirty Three

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…
_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
BLAKE ROSE – “Heavy Sh*t” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Fifth appearance

Blooming onto another edition of the Rewind, this Rose is already firmly rooted among my favorite independent performers during the last year. Luckily, he pours out another nice tune with this edgier sound, which wouldn’t sound out of place at Alternative radio.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
BRUCE WIEGNER – “Malicious” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Second appearance

With his first track to make the weekly Rewind since March, Wiegner debuts a new single that may have a harmful title, but it won’t be destroying anything in the immediate vicinity (other than some future damage on the charts.) It might be his best solo cut so far.

PICK OF THE WEEK: THREE
WRABEL – “Magic” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Sixth appearance

From a major label performer to making major records as an independent artist, this multi-talented guy scores another appearance on the Rewind with a magical new release that’s among the best singles of the week. The smooth R&B-influenced sound is real cool.

_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
JHART – “Temporary” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Third appearance

With the third single to be released from his forthcoming set Songs From Therapy, hit singer and songwriter James Abrahart has a great new song in the mix this week, following top pop cuts like 2018’s “Put It To Bed” and “Why Does It Hurt”. It’s another winner.

RECORD REWIND 2019: PGTC Picks, Week Sixteen

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
BENEDICT CORK – “Funny How Things Change” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Second appearance

This English performer’s previous single “Fear Of Lonely” was noted on an edition of the Rewind about a month ago, but this single also caught my ear pretty quickly. Slowing it down with a classic soft pop release, Cork’s cut feels ready for radio and the big screen.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
BLAKE ROSE – “Best Of Me” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Third appearance

Australian singer Blake Rose hasn’t “Lost” his momentum on our weekly recap, though that was his last title to appear on here. The latest of his three released singles so far stays firmly in his comfortable pop/rock lane, but with a more pronounced alternative feel.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
ADAM SAMPLE, “Not Tonight”
CHRIS AYER featuring LACES, “Running In Reverse”
CRUISR, “Get Out”
EMILY VAUGHN, “Bitch”
KYLE REYNOLDS, “Baptized”
SINCLAIR featuring JINKA, “Drop-Dead Knockout”
WINGTIP, “Broken Bones”

RECORD REWIND 2019: PGTC Picks, Week Six

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
BLAKE ROSE – “Lost” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Second appearance

Australian performer Rose appears to be blooming like a rose with his second single to date, which received notable support at both Apple Music and Spotify on Friday and ranked among the top 60 pop titles on iTunes. His awesome song is poised to do even more.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
KIM PETRAS – “If U Think About Me…” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Fourth appearance

Three is better than one, and Petras knows it well, having just released another three songs on Thursday of last week. While the two others are collaborations, this solo cut ranks as my favorite of the tracks by far. No need to think about it: this pop bop is a nice one.

PICK OF THE WEEK: THREE
R3HAB x ICONA POP – “This Is How We Party” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Third appearance (Icona Pop records for Big Beat Records, distributed by Atlantic Records)

Here’s a great dance release with a nostalgic twist: the song interpolates another track of the same name by S.O.A.P., a Danish duo whose European hit peaked at #21 on the CHR/Pop chart in May 1998. This update keeps it fresh and should be a solid club record.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
ADAM MELCHOR – “Three Hours Ahead”
ADAM&STEVE featuring MATY NOYES – “Wherever You Are”
CHRIS JOBE – “Cry”
COOPER & GATLIN – “Like You”
GRANT LANDIS – “Home To Momma”
GREYSON CHANCE – “Shut Up”
SOPHIA ANGELES – “Anybody Else”
SVRCINA – “Insecure”

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

BLAKE ROSE – “Hotel Room” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance
Notes: Known for a few dance and electronic collaborations, Australia’s Rose and his edgy pop release are certainly winners for me.

_____

FLY BY MIDNIGHT – “You Belong” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Fifth appearance
Notes: The New York City duo is certainly flying with the latest single from their forthcoming set Rerunning, a dreamy pop delight.

_____

LIV MIRALDI – “Chromatic” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Second appearance
Notes: In June, Miraldi made her debut on the Rewind with a cool cover of the 2002 hit “Dilemma”. This tune is another great bop.

_____

PRETTY SISTER – “My Jam” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance
Notes: After burning onto the Rewind in July with “New Fire”, the talented performer throws it back with a 90’s R&B-inspired jam.
