RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, June 10 – 16, 2018

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independe2nt songs of the week…

_____

ALY & AJ – “Good Love” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Three previous appearances, including “Take Me” (August 2017) and “I Know” (November 2017)
Notes: After a short break following their awesome EP from last year, these sisters return with another quality 80’s-influenced jam.

_____

BETTY WHO – “Just Thought You Should Know” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Three previous appearances, including “Ignore Me” (January 2018) and “Look Back” (March 2018)
Notes: For one of this week’s best EP releases, check out Who’s fantastic five-track set. Opener “Know” is a lovely retro-tinged song.

_____

PETER THOMAS with LELAND – “Run Away With Me” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance / Two previous appearances, now signed to Vertigo Berlin (Universal Music – Germany)
Notes: With their darker and more electronic reinterpretation of a Carly Rae Jepsen classic, these talented guys still serve up a bop!

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
EIGHTY NINETY – “Dream”
FINNEAS – “Landmine”
JAMES DROLL – “Twist My Arm”
KIRSTEN ARIAN – “Girls Hate Girls”

NEW MUSIC FRIDAY: Releases For The Week of June 15, 2018

Another youthful chart-topper.

Take five seconds (or more time than that, we can hope) to check out all of this week’s noteworthy albums, from bubbling boy bands to bold rappers. These are the notable digital and physical releases headed into the market this Friday:

5 SECONDS OF SUMMER – Youngblood (iTunes)
After moving their album’s release date up a week, which seems like a rarity these days, these four Australian musicians are looking for their third #1 on the Billboard 200. The new set includes the radio singles “Want You Back” and the title track, which is currently at #1 in their home country. Will it beat streaming monsters from acts like Kanye West and Post Malone? We’ll see soon.

NAS – Nasir (iTunes)
Just in case you haven’t had enough West this summer, he also executive-produced this set, which marks the first studio album for Nas in six years. With five solo #1 titles to date, there’s a very real possibility that this could become his sixth, but again, the competitors are fierce. Stay tuned!

Notable albums out this week: Buddy Guy‘s The Blues Is Alive And Well (iTunes), Christina Aguilera‘s Liberation (iTunes), Chromeo‘s Head Over Heels (iTunes), Jacquees‘s 4275 (iTunes), Jay Rock‘s Redemption (iTunes), Mayday Parade‘s Sunnyland (iTunes), Mike Shinoda‘s Post Traumatic (iTunes), The Gaslight Anthem‘s The ’59 Sound Sessions (iTunes), Welles‘s Red Trees And White Trashes (iTunes)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, May 27 – June 2, 2018

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independe2nt songs of the week…

_____

EMILY WARREN – “Paranoid” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Two previous appearances, most recently “Something To Hold On To” (July 2017)
Notes: We try not to let the pop paranoia sink in, though we suspect this song is a winner. Warren’s solo releases continue to shine!

_____

LAUV – “Enemies” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Ten previous appearances, most recently “Bracelet” (May 2018)
Notes: You know, we haven’t seen Lauv on the Rewind in… oh, a week! With his playlist era completed, this new tune is a highlight.

_____

LIV MIRALDI – “Dilemma” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance
Notes: Miraldi’s great remake of this massive single from 2002 takes a modern-day R&B classic and turns it into a sugary pop rush.

_____

PRETTY SISTER featuring WHITE GOLD – “Tension” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Two previous appearances, most recently “Thirsty” (November 2016) / First appearance
Notes: No sibling rivalry here! Zak Waters’s first cut in over a year is, by far, the filthiest and funkiest jam in the bunch this Sunday.

_____

R3HAB x QUINN LEWIS – “How You’ve Been” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance / Four previous appearances, most recently “Weekend Luv” (April 2018)
Notes: When PGTC favorite Lewis teams up with one of the hottest DJs/producers around, you know it’s going to be one giant bop!

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
ALLIE X – “Focus”
BETTY WHO – “All Things”
CHELSEA CUTLER – “Someone Else”
FLY BY MIDNIGHT – “All The Feels”
NICHOLAS ROBERTS – “Growing Up”
REYNA – “Baby Forget It”
VINCINT – “Remember Me”

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, May 13-19, 2018

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

BETTY WHO – “Taste” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Two previous appearances, most recently “Look Back” (March 2018)
Notes: Who’s newest winner is fifty shades of saucy and sensual, wrapped in a great pop production. This craving is really delicious.

_____

CARLIE HANSON – “Mood” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Three previous appearances, most recently “Us” (February 2018)
Notes: If you’re in the mood for another jam from Hanson, which I currently am, you’ll definitely dig the urban lean of her new one.

_____

CHELSEA CUTLER – “The Reason” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Two previous appearances, most recently “Out Of Focus” (February 2018)
Notes: Cutler’s third single of the year has a great hook and solid electronic elements, and I think you’d agree that that’s reasonable.

_____

JESSE SAINT JOHN – “Fake It” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: One previous appearance, “Move” (February 2018)
Notes: If you weren’t moving to his last single, you may not have a passion for pop bops! John’s newest release is an electronic gem.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
FELICITY – “Pilot With A Fear Of Heights”
VINDATA x R.LUM.R – “Emotion”

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, March 4-10, 2018

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

BETTY WHO – “Look Back” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: one previous appearance, “Ignore Me” (January 2018); previously signed to RCA Records
Notes: Yes, I know that there’s a certain irony in featuring a track called “Look Back” on a weekend when the U.S. has sprung ahead one hour. However, just as much as “Ignore Me” was a bop, “Look” is an incredibly catchy and delectable piece of pop. Sweet times!

_____

SPAZZ CARDIGAN – “Episode” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First time featured
Notes: This performer has fallen onto my radar through some mutual friends in Nashville, not to mention his song’s prominent add on Spotify’s New Music Friday playlist. The production on this R&B-flavored track is tight, and a clever lyric definitely doesn’t hurt.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
FLETCHER – “I Believe You”
WANDERER – “Miss You More At Night”

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 1/14-20/18

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

BETTY WHO – “Ignore Me” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: none; previously signed to RCA Records
Notes: Who may now be an independent artist, but she certainly doesn’t miss a beat. In fact, “Ignore Me” wasn’t ignored at all a few days ago, when it was added on several of Spotify’s New Music Friday lists, and the lead position on the PGTC Friday Faves playlist.

_____

JOHNNY STIMSON – “Wild World” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: “Time Machine” (March) had a prominent feature and “Honeymoon” (June) was noted as an additional pick
Notes: Stimson knows how to get my attention with a great stripped-down release. He says he wrote this single to realize “that even though the world is dark sometimes”, he should “stop and notice the beautiful things” within his world. It’s truly an authentic tune.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
LOSTBOYCROW – “I’m A Sailor Not A Salesman” (SoundCloud)
SAM FISCHER – “This City” (SoundCloud)
SUPER DUPER – “Far From Falling” (SoundCloud)
THE SHANTICS – “Mind Pop” (SoundCloud)
