RADIO REPORT: What’s Popping At Top 40 Radio This Week (April 15-16, 2019)

It’s time once again to analyze the airwaves and find out if your favorite new releases will be lighting up your local station’s playlist this week. Which tunes will climb to the top and which ones will hit a stop? Here are five impacting singles this week at the Top 40 format:

BETTY WHO – “I Remember” (AWAL/in2une)
Album: Betty (2019)
Past T40 History: Who hasn’t charted here before, but she’s had a couple of songs receive airplay at the Hot AC format since 2014.

BTS featuring HALSEY – “Boy With Luv” (BigHit/Columbia)
Album: Map Of The Soul: Persona (EP) (2019)
Past T40 History: Making a strong entry into the top 40 here after just two days of airplay, this collaboration should fly up the list.

LEWIS CAPALDI – “Someone You Loved” (Capitol)
Album: Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent (2019)
Past T40 History: The current #1 single in the U.K. is this singer’s first song to impact here. It’s now in the top 40 at Hot AC radio.

TRAVIS SCOTT (featuring THE WEEKND) – “Wake Up” (Epic-Republic)
Album: Astroworld (2018)
Past T40 History: Scott’s “Sicko Mode” recently became his first top ten single here after several minor entries as a featured artist.

WILEY, SEAN PAUL, STEFFLON DON & IDRIS ELBA – “Boasty” (BMG)
Album: (single only) (2019)
Past T40 History: Paul is the sole artist on this single to make the top 40 at the format. His last entry in the region ranked in 2017.

Next week: All sorts of new releases are headed to the format, including future hits by two male soloists who charted well last year: Bazzi and MAX. Dan + Shay are also in the mix with their latest crossover from the Country chart.

Which of these new songs would you like to see top the charts? Let me know!

RECORD REWIND 2019: PGTC Picks, Week Fourteen

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
COREY HARPER – “Don’t Hate Me” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance

Starting things off this week, we have the first appearance by a Los Angeles-based singer and songwriter that’s been releasing music for several years. This cut was co-written by two blog friends, Donovan Woods and Todd Clark, and it sounds like a future radio hit.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
MATT SIMONS featuring BETTY WHO – “Dust” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Fifth appearance / Eighth appearance

Though both Simons and Who are no longer in the major label system, they sure are making some great music together. This single from the former’s album After The Landslide, released last Friday, is a super soft pop collaboration that should continue to do well.

PICK OF THE WEEK: THREE
WRABEL – “Love To Love U” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Third appearance

Two weeks ago, this performer’s new version of a prior single (“I Want You”) was one of the top picks on that edition of the Rewind. So, it’s not a surprise to see him back on here so soon with another original track, a soulful pop cut that showcases his many talents.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
ASTN – “Tidal Wave”
JOHNNY STIMSON – “Flower”
OMAR APOLLO – “Friends”
SPENCER BARNETT – “Suicide Note”
VINCINT – “Please Don’t Fall In Love”
ZAYDE WØLF – “Cold-Blooded”

RECORD REWIND 2019: PGTC Picks, Week Seven

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
BETTY WHO – “The One” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Seventh appearance

One of the album highlights from this past Friday’s pack of releases is the latest set from this pop performer, a dazzling project with so many catchy tunes. Several of them, including “I Remember” from a few weeks ago, are on here. This retro track is also fantastic.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
CXLOE – “I Can’t Have Nice Things” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Second appearance

Australian-based pop is having a great 2019 so far and it’s so good have CXLOE in the mix to continue that trend. Of course, her cut titled “Show You”, which was included on the Rewind last August, got a lot of love from Spotify. Her newest release is pretty catchy.

PICK OF THE WEEK: THREE
FELIX CARTAL & LIGHTS – “Love Me” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance (Lights records for Warner Bros. Records)

For the CanCon lover in all of us, check out this super collaboration that’s sure to do well up north and in the EDM chart world. Out just in time for Valentine’s Day on the 14th, it’s another great addition to the catalogs of both soloists. Get ready to move it all night.

PICK OF THE WEEK: FOUR
XYLØ – “Nothing Left To Say” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance

After a run of quality bops on the Disruptor label, a part of the Sony family, Paige Duddy’s solo project (formerly a duo with brother Chase) continues on with a new independent song and a forthcoming EP in just under two weeks. It’s a good preview of the project.

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

Notes: Always great to have the latest track from Who in the mix! The acoustic-heavy pop sound and subtle arrangement work well.

_____

FRANKIE – “You Decided” (Spotify)

Notes: With the follow-up to “When I’m Ready”, this artist’s second independent release after a period with RCA is a solid pop gem.

_____

HANNAH JANE LEWIS – “Do It Without You” (Spotify)

_____

MAGDALENA BAY – “Ghost” (Spotify)

Notes: Back on the Rewind for the first time since January, the duo’s sweet synth-pop sound and 80’s influence is as strong as ever.

_____

MAX STYLER & THE GRISWOLDS – “Light Me Up” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance for both acts
Notes: The U.S. meets Australia in this worldly dance collaboration, a nice addition to the latter group’s reinvented sound as of late.

_____
