Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. Happy (Almost) 4th of July! Get the grill on and the pool cleaned up, because it’s about to be one hot week. Meanwhile, it’s still pretty hot on the charts, so let’s get into it:

HOW IT’S POST TO BE: Post Malone holds at #1 for the fourth week on the Top 40 survey with his Ty Dolla $ign-assisted hit “Psycho”, though its reign is likely coming to an end next week, as Bazzi‘s “Mine” (#2) or Ariana Grande‘s “No Tears Left To Cry” (#3) approach the top spot. Malone won’t be out of the #1 position for long, however, as his follow-up “Better Now” rises from 21-18 this week. (More on Malone’s updated chart action below.) Four songs bust into the top 40, led by the latest On The Verge selection: “Remind Me To Forget” by Kygo featuring Miguel, at #31. iHeartMedia’s current pick for their chain-wide airplay program geared toward emerging acts is puzzling, to say the least, as this is the fifth top 40 entry for both men. Additionally, Kygo spent three weeks at #2 last June with a Selena Gomez collaboration called “It Ain’t Me”. Nicki Minaj and the aforementioned Grande are next up, up 41-33 with “Bed”. It’s the 36th top 40 hit on the Top 40 chart for Minaj, who hasn’t reached the region as a lead artist since 2015. Grande, who previously collaborated with Minaj on the five-week chart-topper “Side To Side”, is up to 16 top 40 entries. After a pair of #26-peaking songs last year, “Thumbs” and “Why”, Sabrina Carpenter hopes her third top 40 title will go a lot higher. “Almost Love” advances from 46-38, just one notch ahead of Bebe Rexha‘s “I’m A Mess”, which breaks in at #39 to become her 13th top 40 single at the format. Her new one interpolates a portion of “Bitch” by Meredith Brooks, which spent three weeks at #1 in July and August of 1997.

I’M WITH THE BANDIT: Three additional songs are new to the top 50 this week, which all happen to be collaborations. “Solo” is new at #45 for Clean Bandit featuring Demi Lovato, a recent #1 song in the United Kingdom. Though the English act is far more successful in Europe than it is here, “Solo” could become their fifth top 40 entry at the format next week. Coming in at #49, there’s a third and final Post Malone sighting on the pop chart. Tiësto and Dzeko‘s “Jackie Chan”, which features he and Preme, is making some big moves both in the U.S. and globally. This is the first time that Dzeko and Preme have charted in the top 50 here. Painting a pretty pop picture at #50, we have the week’s last entry: “Colour” by MNEK featuring Hailee Steinfeld. MNEK’s prior top 40 title was also a collaboration, 2016’s “Never Forget You” with Zara Larsson. Steinfeld’s had six top 40 entries since 2015 on the Top 40 chart, four of which were duets or collaborations.

It’s getting sticky out there, but as far as our pop chart is concerned, we like those hits that’ll stick around a while. What’s happening with the turnover this week? Check it out:

I THINK WE’RE MALONE NOW: Post Malone spends a third week at #1 on the Top 40 radio survey with his Ty Dolla $ign-assisted “Psycho”, which comes from the recent #1 album Beerbongs & Bentleys. Malone’s “Better Now” also jumps from 27-21, due in part to three recurrents being removed from the chart, which also boosts a number of moves for established hits from 5 Seconds Of Summer, Alessia Cara, Bryce Vine and more. The vacuum effect also lifts three songs into the top 40: up 45-37, “Let You Be Right” is now the tenth top 40 hit for singer and songwriter Meghan Trainor. Leaping 42-38, newcomer Dennis Lloyd is in with “Nevermind”, his first top 40 entry and one of the only ones by an Israeli-born performer. Also entering the region this week, up 43-39, is “Sangria Wine”, pairing Pharrell Williams and Camila Cabello. For solo hit counts, it’s the 14th top 40 song for Williams, a large amount of those coming from features over the last 16 or so years, and the seventh for Cabello.

“BED” IS BURNING: As new singles from Meghan Trainor, Dennis Lloyd and a collaboration from Pharrell Williams and Camila Cabello make the top 40, three other songs burn the midnight oil and light up the top 50 this week. Leading the way, a top collaboration from Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande, “Bed”, snuggles in at #41. It’s been nearly three years since Minaj’s previous top 40 hit as a lead artist appeared in the region, “The Night Is Still Young”, a #13 song from June 2015. (The last Grande and Minaj entry to chart, “Side To Side”, with the former on the lead vocals, spent five weeks at #1 in December 2016 and January 2017.) A few spots lower than “Bed”, Sabrina Carpenter looks to land her third top 40 hit on the Top 40 survey with “Almost Love”, landing at #46. Her previous two titles to make it into the region, “Thumbs” and “Why”, both peaked at #26 last year, the former in March and the latter in November. Finally, at #50, trio Migos have a new crossover song with fellow rapper Drake, “Walk It Talk It”, a former #1 earlier this month on the Urban chart. Their success on the Top 40 airwaves as an act has been limited; their highest-charting hit to date, a feature on Calvin Harris‘s “Slide”, spent two weeks at #9 in May of last year.
