RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (August 2, 2020)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. This week’s top 50 is a very fruitful one! For all the juicy details, here’s what’s popping at the format this week:

“SUGAR” RUSH: Earning his second consecutive #1 song from his sophomore solo album Fine Line, Harry Styles lifts from 2-1 on this week’s Top 40 chart with “Watermelon Sugar”. It’s just outside the top ten on the Hot AC radio chart. Meanwhile, his former #1 on both charts, “Adore You”, remains healthy in the top five: it holds at #3 at Hot AC radio and rebounds from 6-5 at Top 40.

Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish soar into the top 40 at the format with “Cardigan” and “My Future”, which start at #28 and #35 on the chart, respectively. It’s the 32nd top 40 entry for Swift and the fifth for Eilish, the latter of which impacts on Tuesday. The group Avenue Beat also enters the top 40 for the first time with “F2020”, rising from 44-40. This past spring, the three women impacted at the Country radio format with a song titled “Ruin That For Me”, but it did not chart.

Zedd and Jasmine Thompson tickle the format’s “Funny” bone with this week’s #48 debut, the new only entry in the top 50. The collaboration marks the first chart appearance for Thompson at this format.
