RECORD REWIND 2019: PGTC Picks, Week Four

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
ASHLEY TISDALE – “Love Me & Let Me Go” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Second appearance

Former Disney star Tisdale last appeared on the report in November when her original track “Voices In My Head” was released to a fairly good reception. Her follow-up song, though not as successful commercially, is a nice electronic pop addition to her collection.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
FRANKIE – “Lost In Translation” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Third appearance

Just ahead of her forthcoming EP STA7GES, due next month, this performer has another great pop sound on her hands. Other cuts on the set include “When I’m Ready” and “You Decided”, both of which landed on the report last fall. Translation: prepare for bops!

PICK OF THE WEEK: THREE
LAUV & TROYE SIVAN – “I’m So Tired…” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: 14th appearance (Sivan is signed to Capitol Records)

Lauv is definitely in a collaborative mood lately, as the Julia Michaels-assisted “There’s No Way” continues to gain on the pop radio chart, while his release with Sivan makes its debut this week. The short but sweet sound is catchy and the boys sound nice together.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
BRAD O’NEILL featuring JAMES ESSEX – “Wild One”
GIRL WILDE – “Fake Louis”
PETER MANOS – “You Don’t Know Me”
SAARLOOS – “Fire Is Love”
SPAZZ CARDIGAN – “S.O.S.”
THE BAND CAMINO – “Something To Hold On To”

UNSECRET featuring SAM TINNESZ – “Here Come The Warriors”

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, November 4-10, 2018

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

ASHLEY TISDALE – “Voices In My Head” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance
Notes: “Bop To The Top” never felt more appropriate. Tisdale’s latest track, her first original song release since 2013, is very strong.

_____

CHELSEA CUTLER – “Love You More” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Eighth appearance
Notes: With a choice song from her second of two releases this year, Sleeping With Roses II, the slow burner has a pretty nice build.

_____

DALLASK – “Looking For Your Love” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance
Notes: Known for his top remixes for some of the biggest artists in the business, his newest dance hit has a great radio-ready sound.

_____

TRITONAL featuring MOZELLA – “Gonna Be Alright” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance for both acts
Notes: No amnesia here… we loved Mozella then and are thoroughly enjoying her newest collaboration, an electric feel-good single.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
JAMES DROLL – “Last Season”
MARC SCIBILIA – “Waiting On You”
MATT SIMONS – “Amy’s Song”
TYE JAMES – “So Damn Good”

TURN IT UP TUESDAY: What’s New In Stores This Week (December 17)

Beysus rises again.

Beysus rises again.

Here it is, your preview of the last big new releases of the year, which included a major game changer out early last Friday morning. It’s the albums and singles you need to know about for the week of December 17:

  • Beyoncé stunned the industry when her long-awaited fifth solo album, a self-titled effort, dropped with no promotion, no singles, no nothing… except a solid effort of 14 tracks and 17 clips to accompany them, marketed as a “visual album”. With expected sales of 600,000 copies during just the past three days, it will be #1 on the latest Billboard 200 update later this week and most definitely next week too. Beyond that, it’s anyone guess. (iTunes)
  • Had Beyoncé’s surprise album not arrived last Friday, the big album this week would’ve been Justin Bieber‘s Journals, which has now been moved back a week due to an apparent last-minute track (and probably his team’s realization that a #1 album wasn’t going to happen against the Queen Bey.) However, there’s still a new album out from rapper B.o.B. titled Underground Luxury. The current single from it is “John Doe”, a collaboration with singer Priscilla Renea (credited as just Priscilla.) (iTunes)
  • The only other notable album releases this week are soundtracks, both from the movies and television: on the big screen, we have Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (iTunes) and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (iTunes), plus a compilation from the Disney Channel series Austin & Ally (iTunes).
  • Other albums out this week include Mac Miller‘s Live From Space (iTunes) and Somewhere Somehow by We The Kings (iTunes).

New digital-only singles that you can buy this week include:

  • “Top Of The World”, the second single from Mike Posner‘s forthcoming album Pages, featuring Big Sean. (iTunes)
  • “You’re Always Here”, a new single from former High School Musical actress Ashley Tisdale. (iTunes)

We’ll see you in 2014! Don’t forget to check out my year-end chart — new updates are up daily.
