RECORD REWIND 2019: PGTC Picks, Week Twenty One

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…
_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
JOHNNY STIMSON – “Vacation” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Ninth appearance

A long weekend deserves a track called “Vacation” and that’s what Stimson gives us in his second Rewind feature of 2019. So, get in the car, roll down the windows and keep things simple with this smooth R&B release for your magical summer evening soundtrack.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
KIM PETRAS – “All I Do Is Cry” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Ninth appearance

Nine is fine (appearances, that is) for both the featured performers this week, especially this one, who just released a new single for the fifth week in a row. If you’re crying over this cut, it’s probably tears of joy: the urban-influenced pop ballad is another nice tune.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
COREY HARPER – “Dried Blood”
DELANEY JANE – “You’re So Last Summer”
JOHAN – “Smile Like An Idiot”
LEON ELSE – “Beautiful World”
THE WLDLFE – “A Boy On A Phone”
XYLØ“The End”

RECORD REWIND 2019: PGTC Picks, Week Twenty

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…
_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
PRETTY SISTER – “Kingdom In The Valley” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Sixth appearance

It’s been a minute since Zak Waters’s project last appeared on the Rewind, though he managed to put three singles in the recap last year, including “New Fire” and “Tension”. This bouncy funk release has a fun early 80’s synth-pop influence that’s pretty awesome.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
XYLØ – “Ride Or Die” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Fourth appearance

Meanwhile, Paige Duddy’s solo records as XYLØ have been included here a handful of times since going independent, much of that material coming from her EP called Pretty Sad from March. This ride might be a mellower one, but we’re up for the passenger seat.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
ADAM LAMBERT, “New Eyes”
ALEC BAILEY, “Flowerbomb”
KIM PETRAS, “Sweet Spot”
LUKR, “Come Thru”
NUUXS, “Safe”
PHOEBE RYAN, “A Thousand Ways”
RUTHANNE, “Superman”
RYANN, “JFK”

RADIO REPORT: What’s Popping At Top 40 Radio This Week (May 13-14, 2019)

It’s time once again to analyze the airwaves and find out if your favorite new releases will be lighting up your local station’s playlist this week. Which tunes will climb to the top and which ones will hit a stop? Here are three impacting tunes this week at the Top 40 format:

CHRISTIAN PAUL – “Strong” (12Tone/SRP)
Album: Christian Paul (EP) (2019)
Past T40 History: Paul is the only format newcomer this week. His label recently made the top 20 with Lauren Daigle’s “You Say”.

ED SHEERAN & JUSTIN BIEBER – “I Don’t Care” (Atlantic)
Album: TBA (2019)
Past T40 History: With a chart entry just below the top 20 on Sunday, expect this collaboration to potentially have a perfect week!

KYGO & RITA ORA – “Carry On” (Ultra/RCA)
Album: Pokémon: Detective Pikachu (Soundtrack) (2019)
Past T40 History: Kygo has five top 40 singles to date; Ora has six. Will the movie’s second place opening help this one chart well?

RADIO REPORT: What’s Popping At Top 40 Radio This Week (May 6-7, 2019)

It’s time once again to analyze the airwaves and find out if your favorite new releases will be lighting up your local station’s playlist this week. Which tunes will climb to the top and which ones will hit a stop? Here are two impacting singles this week at the Top 40 format:

BLACKPINK – “Kill This Love” (YG Ent./Interscope)
Album: Kill This Love (EP) (2019)
Past T40 History: This K-pop group is hoping to get their first top 40 hit. The track reached the top ten in Japan and South Korea.

SHAWN MENDES – “If I Can’t Have You” (Island/Republic)
Album: TBA (2019)
Past T40 History: With his eighth top 40 entry to date, Mendes hopes to earn his third #1 single at the format and first since 2017.

Next week: Christian Paul is among the new faces looking to have a strong week here on Tuesday, but he’ll be facing some larger competition in the form of two collaborations: Kygo & Rita Ora‘s soundtrack single from the movie Pokémon: Detective Pikachu and a rumored release by Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran that’s being teased on social media.

Which of these new songs would you like to see top the charts? Let me know!

RECORD REWIND 2019: PGTC Picks, Week Eighteen

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
FINNEAS – “I Lost A Friend” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: 11th appearance

He’s one of the most consistent performers on the weekly recap post, so it’s no surprise that the newest track by Finneas is included in this weekend’s review. The tender pop ballad turned powerful rock stomper is another emotional one, but a really excellent song.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
LO LO – “Stay Up” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Third appearance

It’s been a couple of months since the Canadian performer appeared on the Rewind with the title cut from Sweater Collection, a set that came out last Friday. Combining playful pop production and great lyrics, it’s easy to hear why this nine-track album is so great.

PICK OF THE WEEK: THREE
WRABEL – “The Real Thing” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Fourth appearance

Since going independent, singer and songwriter Stephen Wrabel has enjoyed a number of songs making the Rewind post, including this track that was released on Friday. The soulful pop/rock ballad includes some interesting production and a really relatable lyric.
