RADIO REPORT: What’s Popping At Top 40 Radio This Week (March 4-5, 2019)

It’s time once again to analyze the airwaves and find out if your favorite new releases will be lighting up your local station’s playlist this week. Which tunes will climb to the top and which ones will hit a stop? Here are five singles impacting this week at the Top 40 format:

AJ MITCHELL – “All My Friends” (Epic)

Past T40 History: Mitchell’s one prior top 40 single, “Girls”, got as high as #38 in December. We’ll see if this new one goes higher.

GALANTIS featuring ONEREPUBLIC – “Bones” (Big Beat/EMG)
Album: TBA (2019)
Past T40 History: Though OneRepublic has plenty of hits to their credit, the Swedish duo has just two minor top 50 songs to date.

JONAS BROTHERS – “Sucker” (Republic)
Album: TBA (2019)
Past T40 History: The sibling trio recently earned their first top 40 entry since the summer of 2013. How high will this release go?

NOTD, FELIX JAEHN & CAPTAIN CUTS featuring GEORGIA KU – “So Close” (Island/Republic)
Album: TBA (2019)
Past T40 History: The four-way collaboration already went to #1 on the Dance list, as it ranks in several other territories overseas.

P!NK – “Walk Me Home” (RCA)
Album: Hurts 2B Human (2019)
Past T40 History: With nine #1 songs and nearly 20 top ten hits since her first in 2000, this superstar’s newest cut should do well.

Next week: emerging titles from Benny Blanco, James Bay and Lauv are among the songs on the schedule for next Tuesday. It could be a fierce battle between all three collaborations, but who will end up on top? Stay tuned.

Past T40 History: With a massive streaming audience supporting her work, this ballad looks to become her first top 40 entry here.

H.E.R. – “Hard Place” (RCA)
Album: I Used To Know Her: Part 2 (EP) (2018)
Past T40 History: Following a breakout performance at the Grammy Awards, this cut’s big early action should help it along nicely.

PANIC! AT THE DISCO – “Hey Look Ma, I Made It” (Fueled By Ramen/EMG)
Album: Pray For The Wicked (2018)
Past T40 History: “High Hopes” led the Top 40 survey for six weeks recently. Will the follow-up single earn “High” marks as well?

Next week: P!nk looks to color the adds report with her song “Walk Me Home”, but will other impacting releases from NOTD and Rachel Crow paint their own kind of pop success? Stay tuned.

MABEL – “Don’t Call Me Up” (Capitol)

Past T40 History: Mabel is a newcomer here, but her mother Neneh and uncle Eagle-Eye Cherry previously charted at this format.

ZEDD & KATY PERRY – “365” (Interscope-Capitol)
Album: TBA (2019)
Past T40 History: After sneaking into the top 50 yesterday, the first collaboration between these two artists should chart very well.

MKTO – “How Can I Forget” (Crooked Paintings/BMG)

Past T40 History: This duo, who hasn’t appeared on the Top 40 list since July 2015, scored a #8 entry a year earlier with “Classic”.

THE CHAINSMOKERS featuring 5 SECONDS OF SUMMER – “Who Do You Love” (Disruptor/Columbia)
Album: TBA (2019)
Past T40 History: Just behind “break” on iTunes, this collaboration from two acts with four #1 hits behind them will do quite well.

IMAGINE DRAGONS – “Bad Liar” (KIDinaKORNER/Interscope)

Past T40 History: Though “Natural” narrowly missed the top ten here, the band can easily return to the region with this future hit.

LSD (LABRINTH/SIA/DIPLO) featuring LIL WAYNE – “Genius” (RECORDS/Columbia)

Past T40 History: Zucker is a newcomer to the format. At Spotify alone, his single has more than 43 million plays since it debuted.

Next week: A busy week at the format is led by impacting releases from Imagine Dragons and LSD, as well as newcomers Drax Project and FLETCHER.
