NEW MUSIC FRIDAY: Releases For The Week of January 27, 2017

Coming down the track with new tracks...

Coming down the track with new tracks…

When it comes to executive orders to better the state of our music industry, I think we can sign off on getting all of you readers out in the blog world up-to-date with the latest releases. After all, it’s not a wall. Here are some of this week’s new album and singles:

TRAIN – a girl a bottle a boat (iTunes)
All aboard! The latest set from this San Francisco band features “Play That Song”, which recently went top ten on Hot AC radio. That sounds like some chart and soul to me! It also features a collaboration with Priscilla Renea, who hit the pop chart as an artist in 2009 with “Dollhouse”. Pat Monahan and crew have earned five top ten albums on the Billboard 200 since 2001, and the sixth could be on its way soon.

MIGOS – Culture (iTunes)
If you’re into raindrops and drop-tops, then you probably know the chart-topping song “Bad And Boujee” by this Georgia rap trio. As it ranks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, it’s also a top ten hit on the Rhythmic and Urban radio listings. This album will receive a large boost due to stream and track-equivalent units, which is not “Bad” at all when it comes to chart placement.

KEHLANI – SweetSexySavage (iTunes)
With cuts like “CRZY” and “Distraction” building up millions of plays at streaming services, the California performer is bound to find some nice support at those platforms for release week. It’s likely to perform much better than her last mixtape, You Should Be Here.

More albums out this week: Aquilo‘s Silhouettes (iTunes), Bell Biv Devoe‘s Three Stripes (iTunes), Brantley Gilbert‘s The Devil Don’t Sleep (iTunes), Erik Hassle‘s Innocence Lost (iTunes), Japandroids‘s Near To The Wild Heart Of Life (iTunes), Joshua Radin‘s The Fall (iTunes), Lauren Alaina‘s Road Less Traveled (iTunes), NOW That’s What I Call Music, Vol. 61 (iTunes)

More EPs out this week: Stanaj‘s From A Distance (iTunes), Whissell‘s Old Souls, Young Bodies (iTunes)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 1/15 – 1/21/17

Record Rewind - January 22, 2017

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

CASTLECOMER – “If I Could Be Like You” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Sydney’s smashing Alternative quintet keeps on making great music, with this song being one of their more accessible tracks to date. I guess it’s because you can both rock out and dance to it, which is always a good thing. The catchy jam is ready to make some moves.

_____

KEVIN GARRETT – “Strangehold” (iTunes) (Spotify)
A surprise release from New York’s Garrett, still making quite a name for himself in the blog and streaming worlds, gives us another great entry this week. The soulful sound of Garrett’s vocals and musicality is so enticing that you’ll be wishing for more. I know I am.

_____

MAX AND THE MOON – “Killing Time” (iTunes) (Spotify)
It’s a bittersweet moment for this Rewind entry, as the Los Angeles quartet is going their separate ways. However, their last single is actually my favorite of theirs, ironically enough, combining anthemic rock and pop into a lush sound for their fans. We’ll miss them.

_____

REYNA – “Matinee” (iTunes) (Spotify)
This Milwaukee duo came onto the PGTC radar in the spring of last year with a song called “Ink On My Skin”, which is closing in on a solid 200,000 streams on Spotify. Their latest guitar-driven single digs into some late 80’s roots, inspiring one smooth pop dream.

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
AUGUST – “Ghosts” (SoundCloud)
Eliason – “Heaven Knows” (SoundCloud)
Hundred Handed – “Vibe” (SoundCloud)
Pierre Stemmett – “Unfair” (SoundCloud)
Sabrina Parker – “Write You Down” (SoundCloud)
Sam Seg – “Lover” (SoundCloud)

NEW MUSIC FRIDAY: Releases For The Week of January 20, 2017

Lovin' every minute of it.

Everything you need for NMF.

The country may be turning more orange, sadly, but when it comes to New Music Friday, we embrace all colors of music. So, as far as this post is concerned, here are the notable albums and singles that we’re electing you to check out this week:

JOHN MAYER – The Search For Everything (Wave One) (EP) (iTunes)
Search no more: Mayer’s soundtrack to “The Weekend” is just the first taste of his new material this year, which is bound to be great. Given the lighter sales as of late, this will hopefully have an easy ride to the top of the charts next week. It’s certainly our top pick.

VARIOUS ARTISTS – 2017 Grammy Nominees (iTunes)
The yearly set is now out, featuring big hits and notable artists of the past year. The actual show airs February 12. It could make some moves in the top ten, especially closer to the air date.

More albums out this week: AFI‘s AFI (The Blood Album) (iTunes), Bryan Lanning‘s Us (iTunes), Starset‘s Vessels (iTunes), Kidz Bop 34 (iTunes)

More EPs out this week: Chris Miles‘s Milestones (iTunes), Jacob Sartorius‘s The Last Text (iTunes)

New digital-only singles that you can buy this week include:
“Afraid Of Everything”, Milo Greene (iTunes)
“Bite My Tongue (Acoustic)”, The Beach (iTunes)
“Burning Man”, Watt featuring Post Malone (iTunes)
“Crying On The Bathroom Floor”, MUNA (iTunes)
“Doomsday”, Ryan Adams (iTunes)
“Drink Up”, Train (iTunes)
“Enough For You”, Joshua Radin (iTunes)
“I’m Born To Run (Remix)”, American Authors (iTunes)
“Move (Jenaux Remix)”, Saint Motel (iTunes)
“Oceans Away (Sam Feldt Remix)”, A R I Z O N A (iTunes)
“On + Off”, Maggie Rogers (iTunes)
“Quit You”, Lost Kings featuring Tinashe (iTunes)
“Reciprocate”, Rationale (iTunes)
“Revolution”, The Score (iTunes)
“Still Waiting (Acoustic)”, Tom Chaplin (iTunes)
“Strangehold”, Kevin Garrett (iTunes)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 1/8 – 1/14/17

Record Rewind - January 15, 2017

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

FLORIO – “Wait” (iTunes) (Spotify)
New York (formerly Boston) performer Dominic Florio has received some love from our SoundCloud feed in the past, but based on the recent relaunch of his project, it looks like he wants to start anew. Well, at least this chapter begins with a synth-driven pop jam.

_____

MAGDALENA BAY – “Neon” (iTunes) (Spotify)
The duo of Matthew Lewin and Mica Tenenbaum is a new name on the blog, though Lewin plays in a group that I featured in several Rewind posts last year, Tipling Rock. The twosome bottles the magic of 80’s pop nostalgia in just over two minutes and 30 seconds.

_____

PHANGS – “One & Lonely” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Last year, Nashville’s Jake Germany went solo with the track “Cul De Sac”, which landed on both notable blogs and playlists. It’s out now in a stripped version, which is just as cool as the original, but his newest tune really stands out for some great production work.

_____

VÉRITÉ – “Phase Me Out” (iTunes) (Spotify)
This New York City singer has been counting up her millions of Spotify streams lately, thanks in part to strong playlist support for a cover of The 1975’s “Somebody Else”. Back to originals, “Phase” has a great lead vocal, and feels like it could do really well as a sync.

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
FLAGSHIP – “Mexican Jackpot” (SoundCloud)
GRETA ISAAC – “Intro (Creatures Of Habit)” (SoundCloud)
MATING RITUAL featuring LIZZY LAND – “Night Lies” (SoundCloud)
TEAMMATE – “Damage” (SoundCloud)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 1/1 – 1/7/17

Record Rewind - January 8, 2017

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

DENNY WHITE – “Traces” (Spotify)
After another solid push from Spotify’s set of New Music Friday playlists, this Los Angeles singer/songwriter is certainly feeling the love from the streaming world. I really dig the production on this song, and there’s definitely some replay value. White knows a hit!

_____

MARTIN LUKE BROWN – “65 Roses” (iTunes) (Spotify)
After releasing “Shadow & Light” a little under two months ago, Brown starts off 2017 on a fantastic note with a deeply personal cut that was inspired by two people affected by cystic fibrosis. Though it’s a very sad experience, a beautiful track came out of that pain.

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
AVI ON FIRE – “So Far Away From Me” (SoundCloud)
LONELY BENSON – “Can’t Put You Down” (SoundCloud)
