RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 3/19 – 3/25/17

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…
_____

AMY ALLEN – “Get Me Outta Here!” (iTunes) (Spotify)
In the past, we’ve reposted and playlisted music from a great Boston band called Amy & The Engine. Leader Allen is now recording as a solo performer, and her latest single is a catchy indie pop ditty. If you haven’t discovered her yet, this is a great start to the journey.

_____

CAFUNÉ – “How Can I Explain” (iTunes) (Spotify)
How can we explain how much we enjoy this duo’s music? Well, it’s very simple: members Sedona Schat and Noah Yoo are a talented twosome that have mastered the art of a bop. In all seriousness, this is a smooth track with an enticing darkness about it. It’s so good.

_____

WANDERER – “Dreams” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Based in Tempe, AZ, singer and songwriter Adam Simons was previously featured on the Rewind with two cuts from his EP called C I T Y. His latest single is a cover of the Fleetwood Mac hit from 1977. Of course, his take is very dreamy and lush too. It’s worth a listen.

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
LOYAL – “Tower Over All” (SoundCloud)
SILENT CROWD – “Giving It Up” (SoundCloud)

Producer/songwriter Michael Williams II has created some of the biggest Urban records so far this decade, and for his debut album, he’s bringing out the big names: among them, Big Sean, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne and Rae Sremmurd. Expect a solid week ahead for it.

RAELYNN – WildHorse (iTunes)
This is the former The Voice contestant’s first full-length set, though she did get out an EP during the time at her former record label in 2015. The current single from it, “Love Triangle”, is approaching the top 30 on the Country radio chart.

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 3/12 – 3/18/17

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…
_____

BRYCE FOX – “Coldhearted” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Los Angeles’s Fox has been all over my playlists and SoundCloud feed for about a year now. In fact, one of his singles, “Voodoo”, was featured on the very first edition of the Rewind last June. Great production and a clever lyric make his latest single another top tune.

_____

LAUV – “The Other (DallasK Remix)” (iTunes) (Spotify)
If you live on Spotify all day long, streaming your favorite hits, you’re likely well aware of the second wind the original version of this single has been experiencing since December. With a fresh set of remixes for your listening pleasure, it is ready to dominate at radio.

_____

LEO KALYAN – “Feels Right” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Kalyan’s been on my radar for some time now; I really enjoy his songs “Daydream” and “Get Your Love”, among others. So, it’s great to have him back here and sounding excellent. His passion for future soul and layered R&B jams shines through on this superb song.

_____

SODY – “Let Go” (iTunes) (Spotify)
This talented performer, along with PGTC favorite Martin Luke Brown, recorded one of my favorite independent songs of 2016 with “Wasted Youth”. Luckily, Spotify listeners also agree: it’s currently at 1.5 million streams. Her latest track is a burst of pop goodness.

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
BROADHURST – “The One” (SoundCloud)
JENNIFER PAIGE – “Forget Me Not” (SoundCloud)
JUNIOR PROM – “Tapdancer” (SoundCloud)

NEW MUSIC FRIDAY: Releases For The Week of March 17, 2017

Get your Life.

The musical madness of March continues, and you can expect some notable jump shots and layups this week. Who’s got the sound of a slam dunk success? Enough alliteration, Adam, let’s check out all the action right here:

DRAKE – More Life (iTunes) – release date: 3/18 (Saturday)
What exactly is this? An album? A mixtape? A playlist? Whatever it is, it’s going to debut at #1. Of course, you’ll have to wait an extra day to actually listen to it. The biggest song from it thus far is “Fake Love”, which recently topped the Rhythmic and Urban charts. (A CHR/Top 40 run maxed out in the top 20.) Will it be able to pass Ed Sheeran‘s recent bow to become the biggest of 2017 so far? It certainly has the potential, given all the hype surrounding the release. Stay tuned.

DEPECHE MODE – Spirit (iTunes)
It’s hard to believe that these guys have been releasing albums since 1981, but this is the English group’s 14th full-length set. It might become their eighth top ten album in a row, a chain that started with 1990’s Violator. Lead single “Where’s The Revolution” is in the top 40 on Alternative radio. Considering the amount of older acts with new material that the format won’t play anymore, that’s very cool.

RICK ROSS – Rather You Than Me (iTunes)
Five out of Ross’s first six studio albums reached #1 on the Billboard 200, a very impressive feat at the time. His opening frames are still fairly solid, but he probably won’t be in the running for the top spot this time around. Single “I Think She Like Me” is just below the top 20 at Urban radio. Look for this set in the top ten.

MILKY CHANCE – Blossom (iTunes)
The German duo’s second album features the single “Cocoon”, which recently made the top 20 on the Alternative chart. Hey, it’s not “Stolen Dance”, but then again, what is? If their last set could reach the top 20, we’re expecting this one somewhere in the top 40.

More albums out this week: 2Cellos‘s Score (iTunes), Conor Oberst‘s Salutations (iTunes), Frances‘s Things I’ve Never Said (iTunes), Pitbull‘s Climate Change (iTunes), SoMo‘s The Answers (iTunes), Spoon‘s Hot Thoughts (iTunes), Zara Larsson‘s So Good (iTunes)

More EPs out this week: TBA

New digital-only singles that you can buy this week include:
“1 Night”, Mura Masa featuring Charli XCX (iTunes)
“A Long And Happy Life”, Delta Rae (iTunes)
“Anything’s Possible”, Lea Michele (iTunes)
“At My Best”, Machine Gun Kelly featuring Hailee Steinfeld (iTunes)
“Battle Symphony”, Linkin Park (iTunes)
“Bottom Of The Deep Blue Sea”, MISSIO (iTunes)
“Can’t Bring This Down”, Bridgit Mendler & Pell (iTunes)
“Chained To The Rhythm (Hot Chip Remix)”, Katy Perry featuring Skip Marley (iTunes)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 3/5 – 3/11/17

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…
_____

BLAIR – “Dance Alone” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Los Angeles musician Evan Blair had a pair of great singles that received some major love from the blogs last year, and “Dance” has a lot of room to grow, even though it’s taking off very quickly too. His latest hit will get you on your feet and moving all over the place.

_____

COMPUTER GAMES – “Every Single Night” (iTunes) (Spotify)
It’s been a minute since Glee left the television schedule, though it’s still in our hearts. However, whenever I hear that Darren Criss is releasing new music, my ears are bound to perk up. Together with brother Chuck, their first EP is really fun and energetic. Great set!

_____

XY&O – “What’s Love Got To Do With It” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Yes, as you were probably thinking, this is a cover of the iconic Tina Turner hit from 1984. This English group has never appeared on the Rewind before, but I enjoyed “I’m Not Right” and “Low Tide” a while ago. Check out the great production on this very fresh take.

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
EMMI – “Talk To Me” (SoundCloud)
KYKO – “Drive” (SoundCloud)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 2/26 – 3/4/17

Record Rewind - March 5, 2017

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…
_____

JEFFREY JAMES – “Running Away” (iTunes) (Spotify)
James is no stranger to the Rewind, with “Both Ways” featured in October and “Hand Grenade” mentioned in January. Yeah, maybe we do like his tunes… can you tell? Updating his sound to a more dramatic, but anthemic pop style, the change is a good one for him.

_____

JOHNNY STIMSON – “Time Machine” (iTunes) (Spotify)
We’ve been bopping to Stimson’s top tracks for some time now, including songs like “Bright Side” and “Easy”. However, imagine our surprise when his latest EP, Yesterday, fell out of the sky on Friday. First track “Time” is a nice fusion of both retro and current pop.

_____

KYKO – “Dive In” (iTunes) (Spotify)
London performer Scott Verrill has been on the PGTC radar for a little under two years now. Needless to say, we’re preparing for an awesome EP next week called Wildfire. Stock up on your flame emojis! “Dive” blends indie rock and world music into one cool track.

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
AVI ON FIRE – “Win” (SoundCloud)
Jakil – “Every Time We Talk” (SoundCloud)
