RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 10/22 – 10/28/17

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

KAPTAN – “Moving On” (Spotify)
It’s always a great edition of the Rewind when I get to include a new single by this artist, who I’ve been supporting on the blog since the summer of 2015. (Time really flies!) His awesome release on the South x Sea label is catchy and anthemic indie pop at its finest.

_____

MALIA – “Champagne Clouds” (Spotify)
What happens when one of the biggest Top 40 stations in the U.S. takes a chance on an unknown performer on a new label? Well, a rare thing has happened to Malia Civetz, from Jacob Kasher and Ross Golan’s Friends With Pens label. It’s a pretty solid pop debut.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
JOHN.K – “Wrong” (SoundCloud)
NICHOLAS ROBERTS – “Still Believe” (SoundCloud)
SVRCINA – “Astronomical” (SoundCloud)

NEW MUSIC FRIDAY: Releases For The Week of October 27, 2017

A meaningful new release.

It’s the last Friday music update before Halloween… who’s going to serve the treats this week? Put on your costume and find out, because here are the eerie albums and spooky singles you need to know:

KELLY CLARKSON – Meaning Of Life (iTunes)
The most Kelegendary release this week, to no one’s surprise, is the latest album from the original American Idol herself. The set is led by “Love So Soft”, which is approaching the top ten at Hot AC radio, while also ranking on the AC and Top 40 charts. Three of her studio albums have hit #1 since 2003, but the competition is tough this time, as you’ll see below. Still, it should have a nice opening week.

YO GOTTI – I Still Am (iTunes)
Featuring the Nicki Minaj-assisted “Rake It Up”, which recently hit #1 on both Rhythmic and Urban radio, this rapper could be looking at his second top five album next week. His previous release, 2016’s The Art Of Hustle, debuted and peaked at #4. (You’ll recall the big single from that set was “Down In The DM”, with Minaj appearing on a remix of it.)

THEORY OF A DEADMAN – Wake Up Call (iTunes)
Currently at #1 on the Active Rock list with their biggest hit in several years, “Rx (Medicate)”, the Canadian group just celebrated the 15th anniversary of their self-titled debut album. Their last two studio albums have peaked at #8 on the Billboard 200.

KENNY CHESNEY – Live In No Shoes Nation: 10 Years Of Concerts (iTunes)
Chesney’s double album is in the mix for #1, due in large part to a stadium tour bundle that allows buyers to get a physical album for every seat purchased online. His “All The Pretty Girls” recently topped the Country radio list.

_____

FLEURIE, DALTON DIEHL & RUSLAN – “Take Me With You” (Spotify)
There’s a lot of Nashville power charging this musical ménage à trois, though Diehl (previously Young Brother) is now found in The Golden State. Regardless of location, this new collaboration is a nice treat, a soft pop indulgence that you need for your fall playlist.

_____

MATT WOODS – “Tongues” (Spotify)
We were certainly wagging our tongues at the idea of a new release from Woods, and our mouths were watering by the time this cut was confirmed. Following “Nervous” and “Stop”, his latest single continues to deliver an exquisite soulful experience. Lovely sound.

NEW MUSIC FRIDAY: Releases For The Week of October 20, 2017

Horan is scorin’ this week.

Picking apples at the orchard? Carving pumpkins with the kids? Whatever you’re doing this weekend, don’t forget to refresh that playlist of yours with some new tunes! Here are the albums and singles you need to know this Friday:

NIALL HORAN – Flicker (iTunes)
Of course, it’s the One Direction member gone solo leading off this week’s post, now in stores with his debut album. The latest single from it is “Too Much To Ask”, but “This Town” and “Slow Hands” (a #1 single on both the Hot AC and Top 40 lists) can be found on here as well. Will it give him the edge for #1? Will that surprise mixtape dash his hopes of the top spot? Stay tuned.

CHRIS YOUNG – Losing Sleep (iTunes)
The title track from Young’s latest studio album has been struggling up the Country radio survey for several months now, though it’s currently in the top 20 and building. All six of Young’s studio albums thus far, including a Christmas set from last year, made their way into the top ten on the genre-specific albums chart, three hitting the top five on the Billboard 200.

DARIUS RUCKER – When Was The Last Time (iTunes)
Along with Young’s new album, another notable release from the genre this week comes from the Hootie & The Blowfish lead singer, who got his first break at the format in 2008. It features “If I Told You”, which had a slow rise to #1 earlier this year. (The current single off it, “For The First Time”, is below the top 40.)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 10/8 – 10/14/17

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

BRASKO – “Take Me” (Spotify)
As Jordan Gable, he provided plenty of tasty tunes for several PGTC playlists, including two Rewind appearances with “Fool Of Me” (June 2016) and “Didn’t Mean It” (September 2016). Now, as a second era begins, his edgy new wave-influenced pop sound shines.

_____

GOLDEN COAST – “Float On By” (Spotify)
Singer and songwriter Denny White has been on the Rewind with a pair of tunes this year, including a feature for “Traces” (January 2017). So, it’s also good to have his duo back in action! Their catchy rhythmic pop song floats toward the top of this week’s releases.

_____

VOKES – “Screens” (Spotify)
Don’t worry, your vision is fine! This act is now a quintet, having previously hit the Rewind as a solo project (musician Mike Harris) with “Wrong” (August 2016). Focused in a more alternative direction, the transition is flawless and the single is worth a few listens.

_____

ZAYDE WØLF – “Higher Than High” (Spotify)
Hungry like the Wolf? Us too! “High” is the Nashville performer’s third cut on the Rewind in 2017, with “The Jungle” (August 2017) marking his last appearance to date. With a radio-ready and anthemic pop/rock sound, you’ll be blasting this track through the fall.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
CHRIS JOBE – “Thank You Internet” (SoundCloud)
LEO KALYAN – “No Man’s Land (Part 1)” (SoundCloud)
LUKR – “Secrets” (SoundCloud)

NEW MUSIC FRIDAY: Releases For The Week of October 13, 2017

Think P!nk!

What a Beautiful week for a new batch of excellent releases in the music world… question is, which one will you dive into first? I have some suggestions! Here are the albums and singles you need to know this Friday:

P!NK – Beautiful Trauma (iTunes)
What about us? What about her new album? The pop superstar returns with her first studio release in just over five years, and at this point, it should be a worthy contender for the #1 spot on next week’s Billboard 200. Of course, it’s led by ‘What About Us”, a hit at AC, Hot AC and Top 40 radio (and still building nicely.) I’ll certainly be picking up a physical copy.

BECK – Colors (iTunes)
Making his way up the top ten on Alternative and Triple A top ten with “Up All Night”, this performer’s 13th studio album comes just under four years after his last one. It also features “Dreams” and “Wow”, two of his previous hits at the formats over the past couple of years. Could this set make a run for #1? Stay tuned.

GUCCI MANE – Mr. Davis (iTunes)
Mane’s Droptopwop mixtape narrowly missed the top ten on the Billboard 200 earlier this year, so the rapper is likely to get this release, at the very least, well into the region. His new studio album is led by the Migos-assisted “I Get The Bag”, bulleted at #11 on the most recent Urban chart.

CARLY PEARCE – Every Little Thing (iTunes)
Pearce is one of 2017’s most promising newcomers at Country radio format, as she climbs the top ten there with her track “Every Little Thing”. It should have a solid entry on the overall chart, and could be in the mix for #1 on the Country-specific survey.

More albums out this week: Courtney Barnett/Kurt Vile‘s Lotta See Lice (iTunes), Jessie James Decker‘s Southern Girl City Lights (iTunes), Marc E. Bassy‘s Gossip Columns (iTunes), Robert Plant‘s Carry Fire (iTunes), Russell Dickerson‘s Yours (iTunes), The Score‘s Atlas (iTunes), Wu-Tang‘s The Saga Continues (iTunes)

More EPs out this week: Kodaline‘s I Wouldn’t Be (iTunes), Nick Fradiani‘s Where We Left Off (iTunes)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 10/1 – 10/7/17

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

LAUV – “Easy Love” (Spotify)
As he goes for pop radio domination with “I Like Me Better” and “A Different Way”, a collaboration with DJ Snake, the talented guy is keeping busy with yet another quality single. (It’s not a hot Sigala remix!) The retro-tinged rhythmic release will get you bopping.

_____

WHISSELL – “Wild Animal” (Spotify)
You could say that I’m wild about this Nashville performer’s catalog, having covered so many of her releases over the last two years. In the zoo we call SoundCloud, it’s refreshing to have fantastic vocalist in the mix with her bluesy rocker of a single. It’s a great one.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
BIYO – “Fantasies” (SoundCloud)
COLYER – “Enough” (SoundCloud)
