ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (January 11, 2022)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: The Weeknd has a new sacrificial smash for the Top 40 airwaves. Let’s add ’em up:

LOVE ON THE WEEKND: It was a wild first report of 2022 at the Top 40 format, as the adds flew in for plenty of emerging songs. In the top spot this week, The Weeknd secured 118 adds for “Sacrifice”, the new single from Dawn FM. It started at #37 on the published chart last weekend. In the runner-up position, Doja Cat meowed with 96 new stations for “Woman”, which climbed to #27 on the same chart update. Her labelmates Latto and SZA were also huge winners on the report this week: the former finished in third place with 59 new adds for “Big Energy”, while the latter appeared in fourth place with 38 new stations for “I Hate U”. Rounding out the top five, the late Juice WRLD and Justin Bieber wandered into fifth place with “Wandered To LA”, new at 37 stations.

Just below the region, the recent collaboration from Alesso and Katy Perry was also decent on the report: “When I’m Gone” scored a total of 28 adds and tied for seventh place on the list. Meanwhile, watch out for newcomer Lauren Spencer-Smith, whose “Fingers Crossed” is also in seventh place. The viral hit (currently being worked by in2une) was teased on TikTok beginning in November and released last week.

Charting singles from Emmy Meli and GAYLE also returned to the top ten on the adds report this week.
