RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (June 20, 2021)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. Everybody’s working for the weekend chart update, so let’s hit the list and check out what’s popping at the format:

DUA IT AGAIN: For the second week in a row, Dua Lipa lands at #1 on the Top 40 radio chart with “Levitating”, finishing a bit over 2,000 spins ahead of the song at #2. “Levitating” also leads the chart at the Hot AC format for a second week and remains active in the top ten at AC radio.

Tai Verdes has the only new song in the top 40 with “A-O-K”, leaping from 45-39. It’s his first top 40 hit at the format. The single entered at #30 on the Alternative radio chart last week due to a new music integration program, but falls out of the region on the current update.

A massive six new tunes enter the top 50 at the format, led by Tate McRae and Khalid with “Working” in the #43 spot. The collaboration is one of several impacting singles this coming Tuesday. Latin star Bad Bunny puts his new streaming hit onto the chart at #46, as “Yonaguni” (referring to a Japanese island) continues to build at radio in several major markets. Girl In Red starts at #47 with “Serotonin”, which holds at #7 on the Alternative radio chart. One of 2021’s top breakouts is in at #48 with her new entry: of course, Olivia Rodrigo with “Traitor”. A collaboration from T-Pain and Kehlani is next at #49: “I Like Dat”, which also likes being in the top 30 on the Rhythmic radio chart. Lastly, Area21 comes in at #50 with “La La La”, which returns DJ Martin Garrix to the pop chart. The track briefly made the top 40 at Alternative radio earlier this year.
