RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (May 2, 2021)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. This week’s pop chart is feeling more powerful than before, so here’s what’s feeling the force at the format this week:

AS “TEARS” GO BY: “Save Your Tears” is safe for a second week at #1 on the Top 40 radio chart, as The Weeknd‘s hit continues to climb in airplay at the format. The song also holds at #2 on the Hot AC chart, just behind labelmate Taylor Swift‘s “Willow”. As for next week, the pop chart is looking peachy, but we can wait on that one…

In the top 40, Regard, Troye Sivan and Tate McRae bounce from 41-32 with “You”, earning the three artists their third, sixth and second top 40 hits, respectively. After debuting on Thursday, Billie Eilish powers through the top 40 and into the #34 spot with “Your Power”. The song becomes her seventh top 40 entry and third from her upcoming album Happier Than Ever. Lifting from 43-39 on the list, AJ Mitchell makes it into the region with “Stop”, which goes ahead to become his fourth top 40 hit. Finally, TikTok stars Nessa Barrett and Jxdn enter the top 40 with the collaboration “La Di Die”, a recent top 20 single on the Alternative chart, which jumps from 48-40. This is the first top 40 song on the pop airwaves for both performers.

Newcomer Sara Kays leads another handful of releases making their first entry into the top 50 at the format, with “Remember That Night?” coming in at #46. Her song has already reached the top 15 at the Triple A format. Mooski lands at #48 with “Track Star”, which is now at #2 at the Urban format following a viral moment earlier this year. Finally, Veronika is in at #49 with “Homesick”.
