RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (February 28, 2021)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. Who’s licensed to appear at #1 this week? A look at what’s popping at the format may drive you to figure it out:

OUT FOR A DRIVE: In just its seventh week on the list, “Driver’s License” by Olivia Rodrigo charges down the Top 40 highway and parks it in the top spot. It’s her first #1 song at the format, which is not too shabby for her first ever charting hit. Now, how long will it continue to dominate? The answer to that, and when it will reach #1 at the Hot AC format, will be revealed soon.

Daya picks up her sixth top 40 single with “Bad Girl”, lifting from 41-38. It’s her first time in the region since early 2018. Australian newcomer Masked Wolf also makes the top 40 with “Astronaut In The Ocean”, up from 43-40. His first top 40 release has already made it this high (or higher) on the national charts in a number of countries in Europe, as well as his home country.

New entries from Conan Gray and AJR land just outside the top 50, with “Overdrive” entering at #43 and “Way Less Sad” starting at #46. The two tracks should have enough action to hit the top 40 next week, unless the forthcoming collaboration from Maroon 5 and Megan Thee Stallion or another larger release blocks their entrance temporarily.
