RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (December 20, 2020)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. This week’s survey is looking holly and jolly with plenty of chart cheer, including a new tune at the top. Here’s what’s under the musical mistletoe at the format this week:

POSITIONED AT NUMBER ONE: The end of the year brings a new #1 song at the Top 40 format, as Ariana Grande takes the top spot with “Positions”, up 3-1. The song also ranks at #12 and #14 on the Rhythmic and Hot AC radio charts, respectively.

After debuting at #41 last week, “Willow” becomes the 33rd top 40 single at the format for Taylor Swift this week, which moves up to #28 on the list. Her new album Evermore just entered at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart on the most recent update. A little further down the chart, MAX earns his fifth top 40 song to date with “Blueberry Eyes”, rising from 43-39. The tune also marks the first solo top 40 entry for SUGA of the septet BTS. Finally, up from 42-40, Julia Michaels sneaks in with “Lie Like This”, her eighth top 40 hit here.

Four songs are new to the top 50 this week due to a purge of recent lower-charting titles, led by the Black Eyed Peas and Shakira at #42 with “Girl Like Me”. It’s their first charting single together. After reaching the top in a featured spot on 24KGoldn‘s “Mood”, Iann Dior checks in at #47 with his solo release “Holding On”. BTS jumps in at #48 with “Life Goes On”, which recently debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart due to strong sales numbers. Finally, Chung Ha and R3HAB land at #50 with “Dream Of You”.
