RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (May 3, 2020)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. Ready for some more quarantunes and how they’re doing on the radio? Here’s what’s popping at the Top 40 format this week:

“MY” NEW NUMBER ONE: In its 18th week in the top 40, Camila Cabello and DaBaby‘s “My Oh My” climbs from 2-1 on the Top 40 chart. It’s the fifth solo #1 song for Cabello outside of Fifth Harmony and the first for DaBaby. The track is also doing very well on the Hot AC radio chart, where it moves from 10-9 this week, though its current peaks are much lower at other formats.

Starting off a very busy week of new entries and debuts in the lower regions of the chart is “If The World Was Ending”, the JP Saxe and Julia Michaels collaboration that continues to connect with listeners as the Coronavirus pandemic affects the world. It moves from 42-36 on the pop chart, becoming Saxe’s first top 40 song at the format and Michaels’s seventh. You’ll also find it in the top 20 on both the AC and Hot AC charts. “Believe It” lifts from 41-37 for PartyNextDoor and Rihanna, becoming their fourth and 50th top 40 hits here, respectively. This week, the track ranks just below the top ten on the Rhythmic chart, as it climbs into the top 20 at Urban radio. After a two-month rollercoaster ride up and down the top 50, Conan Gray scores his first top 40 entry with “Maniac” with a move from 43-38. Finally, roasting at #40 is the gooey Marshmello, in a fiery collaboration with Halsey, and “Be Kind”. It marks one s’more top 40 entry for each of them: the eighth for the masked performer and the 14th for Halsey.

Singer JoJo breaks into the top 50 for the first time here since the fall of 2016 with “Man”, which enters at #47. It’s included on her latest album Good To Know, which was released on Friday. Format newcomer Sam Fischer lands at #48 with “This City”. It’s now approaching the top 20 on the Hot AC chart. A notch below him, Alec Benjamin checks in at #49 with “Oh My God”, his first tune to rank here in just over a year. It’s also #46 on this week’s Hot AC list. Finally, the eponymous first track from The Scotts, the duo of Travis Scott and Kid Cudi, slides in at #50. So far, it’s doing best on Rhythmic chart, where it debuts way up at #27.
