Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. A popular performer who’s known for some “Rules” is ruling the list, as several newer acts check in with debuts. Here’s what’s popping at the Top 40 format this week:
“START” YOUR ENGINES: Dua Lipa earns her second #1 song on the Top 40 radio chart with “Don’t Start Now”, moving from 3-1 on the latest update. Of course, her first was the multi-format smash “New Rules”, which spent five weeks at the summit in early 2018. There are five different formats where the song currently appears in the top 30, including its former #1 rank on the Dance list. It also rises to #8 on the Hot AC chart, as it continues to make large gains week-to-week.
The multinational collaboration from DJ Snake, J Balvin and Tyga travels into the top 40 this week after an extended period just outside the region. “Loco Contigo” climbs from 41-37, giving DJ Snake his ninth top 40 single at the format, while J Balvin and Tyga each earn their seventh. Maren Morris moves from 43-39 with her recent #1 tune on the Country radio chart, “The Bones”. This is her second release to enter the region on the pop survey. Noah Cyrus also rises from 42-40 with “July”. It’s her fifth top 40 song.
Two additional songs make the top 50 on this week’s chart, led by Ali Gatie‘s “What If I Told You That I Love You” at #43. Last fall, “It’s You” briefly appeared in the region, peaking at #48. Further down, Monsta X starts at #49 with “You Can’t Hold My Heart”. A collaboration from French Montana, “Who Do U Love?”, got them to #23 on the chart in September and October of last year.
