RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (January 26, 2020)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. Just ahead of the Grammy Awards, we have some new winners on the airwaves. Here’s what’s popping at the Top 40 format this week:

ANOTHER FINE POST: With a difference of only nine spins between #1 and #2 this week, Post Malone‘s enduring hit “Circles” returns to the top of the Top 40 chart for a sixth nonconsecutive week. The smash also holds at #4 on the Hot AC chart. Will it score a seventh week at #1 in time for the Super Bowl? Better yet, will it ever leave the chart? We may never know. Actually, we will, but it will have to wait until next Sunday.

Four new songs enter the top 40 at the format this week, three by performers who are new to the chart. The group Brockhampton is one, up from 41-35 with “Sugar”. Roddy Ricch leaps from 49-38 with a cut that’s also flying through the top 20 on the Rhythmic and Urban charts, “The Box”. It continues to hold at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 list. Regard‘s “Ride It” also lifts from 47-39 on the pop radio chart, while Fifth Harmony member Ally Brooke earns her third solo top 40 entry with “No Good”, rising from 45-40.

Additionally, there are four new entries in the top 50 this week, along with a single re-entry that’s been outside the region for almost five months. Newcomer Chelsea Cutler starts things off at #43 with “Sad Tonight”, which impacted at the format last Tuesday. It’s also a good week for Selena Gomez, who enters at #44 with the title track from her recent album Rare. After last appearing at #45 on the chart dated September 1, Maren Morris is on the rebound with “The Bones”, stepping back in at #47. The track is currently in the top ten on the Country and Hot AC radio lists. Grammy nominee Lizzo‘s “Cuz I Love You” debuts at #49, while the Mustard and Roddy Ricch collaboration “Ballin'” sneaks in at #50 to close out this week’s activities. The latter hit went to #1 on the Rhythmic and Urban charts earlier this month.
