Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. Confused about what holiday is actually the next to arrive? Yeah, AC radio might be too. Meanwhile, here’s what’s popping at the Top 40 format this week:
“SOMEONE” IS STICKING AROUND: Now in its third week atop the pop radio chart, Lewis Capaldi‘s “Someone You Loved” remains strong at the format, while it also returns to #1 on the Hot AC chart for the first time in five weeks. It also stays at #6 on the AC chart. Look for Post Malone‘s “Circles” (up 4-2) to replace Capaldi’s song on the Top 40 survey by next week, as it continues to grow quickly.
There’s little movement elsewhere this week: one new song reaches the top 40, “Hot Girl Bummer” by Blackbear, which rises from 44-40 to become his second top 40 single at the format. Two years ago, “Do Re Mi” got to #24 at the end of November. Dua Lipa is in at #45 with “Don’t Start Now”, which leads two additional top 50 entries. The other, Charlie Puth‘s “Mother”, starts at #49. The former song impacts at Top 40 radio on Tuesday and should easily top the week’s adds report, while the latter title has been steadily moving up during the last few weeks. Puth’s latest entry also appears in the top 50 on the Hot AC chart.
