ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (February 19, 2019)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: yes, “Please”, it’s a big week for the latest collaboration from Cardi B and Bruno Mars, the leader of a strong pack of releases that entered the top ten. Let’s add ’em up:

HITS, IF YOU “PLEASE”: In a pretty competitive session at the format, Cardi B and Bruno Mars easily please the pop panel for the second time with their track “Please Me”, which follows their collaboration “Finesse”, a #1 hit from March of last year. “Please” earns a triple-digit sum of 146 stations during its first full week. The cut quickly raced into the top 30 by last Sunday’s official chart and is looking strong so far this week, as it holds steady at #2 on iTunes and in the top five on Apple Music. Furthermore, the track tops both the Rhythmic and Urban reports this week, finishing with 64 and 69 stations, respectively. Though no album from either of the two performers is expected anytime soon, the instant success of this single could change that.

Other highlights from this Tuesday’s report include a second place finish for “365”, another giant collaboration by Zedd and Katy Perry, which scores 281 fewer stations than the number in its total (which amounts to a very respectable 84.) After entering in the top 50 (#48) on last Sunday’s published update, the song should easily crack the top 40 by this coming weekend’s list. Settling into third place, “Last Hurrah” by Bebe Rexha is also performing pretty well with the Top 40 panel and could chart by Sunday. “Last” begins with a still strong total of 70 stations for its first week. Add totals for the rest of the top ten drop off significantly from there.

The party begins again on Tuesday with the impact of Billie Eilish‘s “When The Party’s Over”, going up against a song that enters top ten a week early: “Hey Look Ma, I Made It” (#7, tied) from Panic! At The Disco.
