RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (February 10, 2019)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. As the Grammy Awards hit the small screen this evening, providing some great performances and equally great wins, let’s see what’s popping on the radio this Sunday:

“ME” TIMES THREE: Recent Saturday Night Live host and singer Halsey stays at #1 for a third week with “Without Me” with a small drop in spins from last week. At this time, “Without” is well ahead of competition and is poised to remain at the summit for its fourth week, but this could change around the midweek point. We’ll see what happens. Meanwhile, there’s a massive amount of new entries and big movers towards the bottom half of the survey, so let’s not waste any time and dig into those titles…

The action starts at #30 with newcomer FLETCHER‘s first top 40 tune, “Undrunk”, soaring from #45 last week. It’s the first of five tracks that are new to the region this week, which is followed by “Bad Liar” by Imagine Dragons, moving from 42-32. This is their tenth time in the top 40 at this format. Further down, George Ezra‘s “Shotgun” shoots into the top 40, moving from 41-38. The hit is his first to make the top 40 here since 2015’s “Budapest”, which reached #18 that June. One spot below that single, “Giant” moves from 44-39 for Calvin Harris and Rag’N’Bone Man in their first collaboration together. Individually, the two artists collect their 20th and second top 40 songs, respectively. Closing things out, NF scores his third top 40 entry with “If You Want Love”, up 43-40.

There are six (!) additional debuts in the top 50 this week from a range of performers and collaborations: the highest of them is “I’ve Been Waiting” from Lil Peep and iLoveMakonnen featuring Fall Out Boy at #43. The new radio single from Ariana Grande‘s thank u, next album, “break up with your girlfriend, i’m bored”, follows at #44. Ally Brooke scores her first solo hit with the Tyga-assisted “Low Key” at #45, while format newcomer Jeremy Zucker lands at #47 with “comethru”. “Who Do You Love” comes onto the chart at #48 for The Chainsmokers featuring 5 Seconds Of Summer, which is likely to have a solid impact week (as should Grande’s new entry) on Tuesday. Last, but certainly not least, Jake Miller‘s “Wait For You” is in at #50. Phew… that was a lot. Stay tuned for more chart craziness next week.
