ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (January 8, 2019)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: Post Malone wows the Top 40 panel with another reactive single, as the Backstreet Boys take their chances on a second release from their forthcoming album. Let’s add ’em up:

OUR LATEST POST: Though hot releases by Ava Max, Bad Bunny featuring Drake, Mark Ronson featuring Miley Cyrus and Zara Larsson remained strong on the leaderboard for the first session of 2019, it was Post Malone and his new track “Wow.” leading this week’s Top 40 report. The song impacted with 78 stations at the format, while also collecting 55 adds on the Rhythmic panel, the Most Added song there, and 40 adds at Urban radio, taking a fifth place finish. Over the holiday break, “Wow.” topped a few different sales and streaming charts, including the main U.S. lists on Apple Music, iTunes and Spotify. Look for it to climb into the top 40 here by the end of the week.

Following the band’s top 20 hit “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” from last year, the Backstreet Boys are well on their way to a second chart entry off their new set DNA, out in just over two weeks. “Chances” impacts with a pretty solid 22 stations and a seventh place finish this week. It’s already in the top 20 on the Hot AC chart, a format where “Don’t” reached the top ten.

Next week, look out for impacting songs by Lauren Daigle (at #10 this week) and Sam Smith & Normani to dominate the list.
