RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (December 2, 2018)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. Hope you’re enjoying the start of Hanukkah and the rest of the holiday season. Let’s see what’s burning in the musical menorah this week:

A HAPPIER HANUKKAH: Starting to lose some ground at this format, but still solidly at #1 again, “Happier” by Marshmello x Bastille leads the Top 40 survey for the third consecutive week. Though the song may be spinning a Gimel this weekend, that could change by next Sunday, as “High Hopes” by Panic! At The Disco looks to collect some coins (and the act’s first #1 at the format.) I think it’s safe to say that those hopes won’t be dashed at all, considering that the tune has also topped the Alternative chart and rises to #1 on this week’s Hot AC update. That’s hotter than a fresh batch of latkes. Speaking of which, my stomach is rumbling…

This week’s debut action is pretty light once again, with “There’s No Way” by Lauv featuring Julia Michaels being the only top 40 entry, jumping from 41-39. It’s the second hit to enter the region for Lauv and the fourth for Michaels. For top 50 entries, Madison Beer‘s new single featuring Offset of the trio Migos, “Hurts Like Hell”, bows at #48, as the former #1 Urban hit “Smile (Living My Best Life)” is in at #50 for Lil Duval featuring Snoop Dogg and Ball Greezy. Both Lil Duval and Ball Greezy are appearing at the format for the first time, while Beer is searching for her second top 40 entry, the other being “Home With You” from earlier in 2018.
