Chart Notes:

  • Scoring her first #1 single on my chart since 2002’s “Sk8er Boi”, a 16-year (!) gap, Avril Lavigne is up from 2-1 on my current update with “Head Above Water”. The track falls just short of the record established by “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” by Backstreet Boys a few months back, which became that act’s first #1 hit on my chart in nearly 17 years. It’s also a pretty nice week for debuts, led by “1999” by Charli XCX featuring Troye Sivan at #38. Sivan is aiming for his third chart-topper on my survey, having previously led with 2016’s “Youth” and 2018’s “My My My!”, while Charli XCX is looking for her first. Jack & Jack debut just below that collaboration at #39 with “No One Compares To You”. Their new one is their second release to chart here, with “Beg” ranking on my list earlier this year. Finally, new at #40, Mark Ronson unites with Miley Cyrus for the hit “Nothing Breaks Like A Heart”. Currently in the top five on iTunes in the U.S. and internationally, the single comes from Ronson’s forthcoming studio album, due next year.
