ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (April 24, 2018)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: Ariana Grande stocks up on Top 40 tissues for her new track “No Tears Left To Cry”, as adds for the single flood this Tuesday’s report. Stay dry, because we’re about to add ’em up:

WHO’S CRYING NOW?: Leading her forthcoming studio album, due sometime later this year, “No Tears Left To Cry” from pop singer Ariana Grande is well ahead at the top spot on this week’s Top 40 report, landing 156 stations on impact. Grande’s largest adds week to date at the format was for “Focus”, which took in 158 stations during its first week on a run toward #13 for two weeks in November and December 2015. (Hey, we can only hope for a better result with this song.) “Tears” debuted way up at #30 on the weekend’s published update, thanks in part to hourly airplay from iHeartMedia stations throughout the day on Friday. The release also tops this week’s station leaderboards at the Hot AC and Rhythmic formats.

Will Nicky Jam and J Balvin‘s “X” be the next successful Latin crossover? With a new version in English, the collaboration takes 21 stations from the panel this week, tying for a third place finish. The two soloists have previously charted at the format in the last couple of years, but not on the same top 40 song. Tying for ninth place, with ten stations, is another terrific twosome that regularly records as a duo: Loote, new with “Your Side Of The Bed”. The New York act has yet to make the top 40 here, though they have as co-writers and producers of “No Promises” by Cheat Codes featuring Demi Lovato, which got to #6 last September.
