Chart Notes:

  • Congrats to One Direction‘s Niall Horan, who now goes 4-for-4 with chart-topping titles from his solo album Flicker. “On The Loose” rises 2-1 this week, making Horan’s set the first to accumulate four consecutive #1 songs on my top 40 since 25 by Adele. The other three, chronologically, are 2016’s “This Town” and 2017’s “Slow Hands” and “Too Much To Ask”. This chart achievement also makes Flicker the first release to land #1 songs in three different calendar years since 25, with the last of the four, “Water Under The Bridge”, spending its last week at the top on the chart dated the first day of January in 2017. (Her run began in November 2015 with lead single “Hello”.) There are three debuts this week, led by the fourth top 40 song for James TW, “Say Love”, at #36. His biggest entry here to date, “When You Love Someone”, spent seven weeks at the top in the fall of 2016. The Driver Era, two of the Lynch siblings from R5, are new at #39 with “Preacher Man”, marking their first chart hit. Lastly, at #40, is a collaboration from Hall & Oates and Train called “Philly Forget Me Not”, a preview of their forthcoming summer tour together. It’s the legendary duo’s first time on my chart since 2005, when their cover of “Ooh Child” went to #37 that June. Train’s last top 40 single here, “Drink Up”, spent three weeks at #9 last June.
