Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: boys and bops make the pop world spin, including the current songs from singer Niall Horan and boy band Why Don’t We. You ask, why don’t we begin in our recap? Good point! Let’s add ’em up:
DUCK DUCK “LOOSE”: While proven hits from acts like Drake, Imagine Dragons and Justin Timberlake continue to get significant action from the panel, this week’s most notable impacting single comes from One Direction soloist Niall Horan and the fourth single off his album Flicker. “On The Loose”, which is not a hot Saga remake for those 80’s fans out there, scores with a solid 56 adds in its official first week, good for the Most Added title at the format. Interestingly, Horan’s new track didn’t impact at the Hot AC format in a simultaneous release, where he’s arguably been more successful than on the Top 40 airwaves. However, it’s bound to be embraced by the Hot AC panel pretty quickly, so stay tuned to PGTC’s social feeds to see how it does there soon.
Also impacting here, “Mad Love”, a collaboration from Sean Paul, David Guetta and Becky G, and “Trust Fund Baby”, the new one from Why Don’t We, make a big splash on the adds report, tied with 24 adds and a fourth place ranking. The latter release is already in the top 50 at the format, which should make the top 40 (becoming their second song to reach the region) in the next few weeks. Next week, look for a pair of songs further down in this week’s top ten, Dua Lipa‘s “IDGAF” (19 adds, tied for eighth place) and Bazzi‘s “Mine” (18 adds, tenth place), to rank toward the top of the list, as they officially impact. How will they do against acts like AJR and Mackenzie Nicole? Come back next Tuesday to see the results.
