Chart Notes:

  • As Kesha and The Dap-Kings Horns continue to run the football to #1 on my chart, two new entries enter the game with touchdowns on the brain. (Well, maybe not, but the Super Bowl is coming up in a few hours.) The higher of the two, blasting in at #37, is the fourth solo top 40 single for One Direction‘s Niall Horan. “On The Loose” heads to the Top 40 format in just over two weeks. Horan’s previous three entries, “This Town”, “Slow Hands” and “Too Much To Ask”, all reached #1, and “Slow” topped my yearly survey for 2017. A little lower, at #39, is a future nominee for the oddest collaboration of 2018. The song is “Don’t Make Me Wait”, and it’s done by 66-year-old Sting and 49-year-old Shaggy. Just over a year ago, Sting went to a high of #4 on my chart with “I Can’t Stop Thinking About You”, establishing he and Elton John as the only performers to reach my top five while over the age of 65. “Don’t” also marks Shaggy’s first single to land in my top 40 since “Strength Of A Woman”, which last appeared on the chart in December 2002. Look out for the odd couple’s collaborative album, 44/876, on April 20. I’m sure it’ll be, uh, smokin’.
