ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (January 30, 2018)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: we get caught up in the middle of an amazing impact week for the reactive collaboration from Zedd, Maren Morris and Grey, while Drake turns to “God” for his next big radio song. Who commands the top of the pops this week? Let’s add it up:

RIGHT SAID ZEDD: After sneaking into last Tuesday’s report in ninth place, shortly after its release that day, “The Middle”, the new single from Zedd, Maren Morris and Grey, explodes at the format, pulling in 83 stations during its official impact. The hit, and the first two acts listed above, was featured in a commercial for Target that aired during Sunday night’s Grammy Awards. As it continues to run, the collaboration holds strong in the top ten on the U.S.-based iTunes songs chart, as well as Spotify’s U.S.-based top ten streamed songs. No word on when a new album from Zedd will arrive, but I imagine this track, along with last year’s “Stay” (with recent Best New Artist winner Alessia Cara) will be on it.

Meanwhile, “God’s Plan”, a top seller and streamer from Drake‘s new Scary Hours single, has a holy week as well; all that praying delivered 53 stations on impact, good for second place. “Plan” was last week’s Most Added single at the Rhythmic format, though it settled for a second place finish at the Urban format. (The other part of that release, “Diplomatic Immunity”, has also accumulated some smaller airplay toward both charts.) Much like Zedd, it’s unclear when Drake’s next project is expected to drop, but based off the statistics of these two songs, there’s certainly demand for an album.

(Data outside the top five is excluded this week due to lower-than-average results. It is expected to return next week.)
