Chart Notes:

  • After another successful Women’s March across the country, I can’t think of a better choice than a single called “Woman” to be named my top song this week. Kesha and The Dap-Kings Horns bolt from 5-1 in their sixth week on my chart, giving Kesha’s most recent album, Rainbow, a second consecutive #1 hit. “Praying”, the lead single from it, spent four weeks at the top last year. The leader of the Dap-Kings, the lovely Sharon Jones, passed away in November 2016. “Woman” goes for adds at both Hot AC and Top 40 radio this week, though it already appears in the top 50 at both formats. I’m rooting for it!
  • Yes, there are a massive six debuts on this week’s chart! It’s always exciting to have a busy week like this one, especially with all the great music since the top of the year. Two of the six are by artists who have reached #1 on my chart: Kelly Clarkson and “I Don’t Think About You”, the highest entry at #35, as well as Jukebox The Ghost and “Everybody’s Lonely”, at #38. Another two of the six are by acts who have at least one top five song: Blue October and “I Hope You’re Happy”, bowing at #36, as well as George Ezra and “Paradise”, new at #40. Finally, we have two newcomers in the bunch: River Matthews and “Sunshine”, checking in at #37, as well as Milck and “Quiet”, which tip-toes in at #39. Phew! That was a mouthful. The next few weeks should be very interesting for all of these future radio singles, the majority of which impact at the Hot AC or Triple A formats sometime later this month or early next month. Stay tuned!
