Chart Notes:

  • Two solo releases, two #1 songs: Niall Horan hits another home run with “Slow Hands”, up a notch from 2-1. His first track to reach the top spot on my chart was “This Town”, which spent its one week there in mid-December of last year. It looks like his first album won’t be out until the middle of the fall, so allow me to cry a few tears into my phone… (I’m sure it’ll be a great listen whenever it appears.) When it comes to Irish acts, The Script still leads with the most #1 songs (six) on my survey.
  • A powerful single from Kesha‘s upcoming album Rainbow premiered on Thursday, and it comes in as the Highest Debut on my personal chart this week. “Praying” leaps in at #37. The song was co-written by the singer, Ryan Lewis, Ben Abraham and Andrew Joslyn. The August 11 release looks to be a very diverse set, including collaborations with Dolly Parton and Eagles Of Death Metal, as well as the horn section from The Dap-Kings, who were led by the late Sharon Jones.
  • DJ/producer Zedd and singer Liam Payne team up on a hot new collaboration called “Get Low”, coming in at #38. Payne’s first solo hit, “Strip That Down”, advances from 8-5 this week and could reach the top spot sometime in August. The 23-year-old singer is one of two members from One Direction to debut on my latest chart, the second of whom also scores with two songs in the top 40. What can I say? It’s good to be them.
  • There are another two debuts below those titles in the countdown: at #39, Loote‘s “High Without Your Love” marks the first top 40 song for the male-female duo from New York City. A spot lower, at #40, Harry Styles claims his second solo hit with “Two Ghosts”. It’s the second radio single from his self-titled album; “Sign Of The Times”, a recent #1, now falls from 4-8.
