ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (June 6, 2017)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: Fifth Harmony goes four the Most Added title, while Bebe Rexha is at work on her “Dance” moves with Lil Wayne. Let’s dip back into those hot June tunes, even if the weather’s a bit on the cold side at the moment. (55 degrees and overcast? Really?) Here’s the forecast on these songs:

“DOWN” TO THE WIRE: It was another active week for both pre-impact and impacting singles this week, but Fifth Harmony takes the crown with “Down”. Their latest hit, featuring Gucci Mane, begins at 58 stations in its first frame, enough to become the Most Added song on the format. If that total feels underwhelming for a lead single from an album, it is. “Work From Home” scored 131 adds upon impact in March of last year. We’ll see if “Down” continues to go up on next week’s report. Meanwhile, former group member Camila Cabello ranks with the fourth Most Added title of the week, “Crying In The Club”, taking in 19 more stations. It’s closed just under 90% of the panel at this point, as it continues to build nicely.

“ARE” & BEBE: Singer and songwriter Bebe Rexha is back on the Most Added leaderboard with a new collaborator, rapper Lil Wayne, and a song title that combines two titles of previous #1 songs. “The Way I Are (Dance With Somebody)” is on “the way” up the pop chart with a solid 25 adds this week, grabbing the 2nd Most Added spot. Of course, 2007’s “The Way I Are” by Timbaland featuring Keri Hilson and 1987’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)” by Whitney Houston both spent multiple weeks atop the format’s chart, “Way” for six on Mediabase and “Dance” for three on Radio & Records. Will Rexha’s song reach that milestone as well? It’s too early to tell. Her last top 40 single, “I Got You”, peaked at #14 in March.
