Chart Notes:

  • Josette Maskin, Katie Gavin and Naomi McPherson make up the trio MUNA, and they lead my chart with the week’s new #1 song, “I Know A Place”. It’s up 3-1. It’s taken from the album About U, which is one of my favorite sets of 2017 so far. “Place” recently climbed into the top 50 on the Hot AC format, where it continues to gain in spins from about a dozen stations. How long will the ladies stay at the top? Stay tuned!
  • This week’s Highest Debut belongs to 20-year-old singer and songwriter Lorde, debuting at #32 with “Green Light”. It’s the first single from her forthcoming album Melodrama. We’ll see if the New Zealand performer zooms toward the top spot in a few weeks. The first act from the country to reach #1 on my list was Daniel Bedingfield, who spent three weeks there with “Gotta Get Thru This” in 2002.
  • He’s already on the chart with “Love On The Weekend”, and now, John Mayer enters the top 40 at #37 with “Still Feel Like Your Man”. It’s the first single from Wave Two of The Search For Everything, which is due in its entirety on April 14. Well, I may have to give up bread for a period around that time, but I sure hope he delivers some tasty new tunes…
  • Just below Mayer’s new hit are debuting records from MisterWives (“Machine”, #38) and The Band Perry (“Stay In The Dark”, #40) that look to make some moves up the chart through the spring. The former song is at Alternative radio later this month, while the latter entry went for Hot AC adds about a week ago.
