FLASHBACK: Groundhog Gems And Shadowy Songs

Divas gone dark.

Dark ditties for the day.

Happy Groundhog Day! Yes, February 2 is here, a day when our favorite furry pal, Punxsutawney Phil, lets us have the answer to a burning question: are we due for an early spring or six more weeks of winter? It’s a very important one. Of course, that depends on whether the groundhog sees his shadow or not. If Punxsutawney Phil does indeed view his shadow, winter’s sticking around for six more weeks. If he doesn’t see his shadow, put away those heavy sweaters and long pants, because spring is coming sooner than you think. Well, relatively soon. For the record, he didn’t see his shadow last year, and I’m hopeful that the trend continues this year.

So, before the groundhog and his family come out of their home before a crowd of people, we thought it was only right to rewind a little bit and check out the top “shadow” titles from the archives of the pop radio chart. We’ve had six shady songs reach the top 40 during the last four decades, with half of them making the top ten. Not bad. Do you remember them all? Take a listen below:
