FLASHBACK: Commanders-In-Chart, 2009-2017

On my ballot of bops.

On my ballot of bops.

Saying farewell to a President is hard after eight years in office. In fact, a number of us are saying “don’t leave.” Still, there are people out there who desire a change, someone who more accurately fits their views. Though I don’t get too political on here, I got to vote in my first election in 2008, and I was happy to vote for President Obama both then and in 2012. Needless to say, I appreciated his time and effort in office, and thank him for the work he did. (Let’s be respectful on here, kids, we can all have differing opinions.)

As January 20 brings new leadership and a new sense of uncertainty to many people in the U.S., I thought it would be nice to address something that is certain, at least when it comes my top 40. During the past eight years, a lot of memorable songs reached the #1 spot on my chart, but just a dozen claimed runs of seven weeks or higher at the summit. It takes strong leadership, whether you’re running the country or a personal chart, to build momentum and keep on top, and that’s what these excellent tracks did. Sure, at least a few of these songs didn’t get the national attention that I hoped they would, but as far as my musical universe goes, they’re all classics. What songs will hold this long at #1 during the next president’s time in Washington? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

For now, enjoy all these musical treasures from January 2009 to January 2017: the presidents of pop, the leaders of longevity and all the other members of the chart cabinet.
